Datsun SSS Stanza Build/Resto

Hello all from the Land Down Under!! I dunno if I should be posting here, as I am Australian, not British, and I don't intend on drifting or even properly racing my car, as it's incredibly rare/hard to find parts for, so I don't want to break anything...
Anyway, the car in question is a 1981 Datsun Stanza SSS. My Dad gave it to me on my 17th birthday, it hasn't been on the road for over 15 years, and needed a rebuid.
Current plans are to get it roadworthy so I can drive it, as I have a license but no car atm... :(
As it stands, it has a 1.6L 4cyl which is stripped and at the machine shop, a LSD (can't remember what sort), a factory 5 speed dog leg gearbox, and a mad complicated cooling/electrical system that Dad has made up - bloody engineers... I'm currently conduiting it to protect it (even though it looks worse), because if it fails I will basically have to replace it all...
Future plans after it's on the road is new tyres, wheels, suspension, brakes, I might look at a sound system, and I'll redo the electrical system eventually, as it currently looks like dog shit...
Sorry for the lack of pictures, I'm currently writing this at school (slow day) :wack: but I will post some pictures when I get home this afternoon.
Not going to be used as anything except a daily driver at this stage, which will probably get taken on spirited drives more often than not .
I'm hoping to get a Nissan of some sort in the future, when I can afford one and fine a clean stockish one (or import one, preferably  ).
Well, there's a lot to do and spend, and not much time or money, so this could well be a long term thread, we shall see :wack:

Welcome :)

First point - please use some line breaks!!!!

Second point - This is a worldwide forum, plenty of room for crimi....I mean, Australians like you :)

Third Point - Plenty of "Lifestyling" (whatever that is) going on here so don't let the fact you won't drift or race it put you off...it won't last ;)

Get some pics up :)

Hi, sorry for all the stuffing around, was having tech issues. And thanks, for the heads up and the encouragement, I'm rather new to all this...
Anyway, less talking more pictures. :)
This is how the car was, when I got it (sorry, you will have to click on the links individually, I cannot seem to upload properly for some reason)

Dirty engine bay, shit wiring. Being a perfectionist and owning an old car sucks :/

I'll let the pictures talk...

This could explain the weird noise emanating from it....

Seems to have been running on more oil than fuel..

The engine as it is now. I will use a stock bottom end except for flat top pistons, with a different head with my own touch, twin carbs, a wild cam, etc. I am considering the idea of swapping a SR20 or something turbo in, with some skyline R31 brakes/suspension down the track when I can afford it, but right now I am not rich, and just want to get it running, on the road, and have some fun.

Preparing extractors to be sent to Brisbane for ceramic coating, getting a flange welded on for easy removability, etc.

Sorry for the potato pictures, I never thought I would write a build thread about it, but I will be using a DSLR in future... :) And sorry for the large number of pictures, this is basically a catchup post....

When you click one of the links, there is 'view original' at the top left. Click that and it will give you the Image URL. You then use that to post in threads.
As you need to use code to make the forum find it, add the image tag..

url]

but remove the spacing and use your own URL. However the images are also MASSIVE so maybe resize them down to a more work able size. :) Or use photobucket or somewhere like that.

Sorry I haven't updated this for a little while. I have been a little busy with school, the Rural Fire Service, etc etc. Anyway, I have cleaned and painted my sump, put a new rear bumper on it, and put in some LED lights in the back (I ran out of stuff lol). Over Easter, I also stripped one of the carbies, cleaned and kitted it, and put in new bushes, a throttle shaft, etc etc. Following that, I also received my newly reground camshaft, and got my extractors back after sending them to be ceramic coated. Unfortunately I only have a couple of pictures, for now.
