Derv Drift?

As the title suggests, will a diesel drift? There is a e46 320d touring for sale just up the road from me and that got me thinking...
Pod is around 500 miles from me and there isn't much happening down where I live so fuel would be cheaper for me too get too drift days etc.
Simple mods such as a remap will see good power improvements?
Also I just fancy being different.

Comments appreciated

330D would be better of course, and they're cheap as too.

I know someone with 400bhp and 700lbft from their standard internals BMW E46 330D. That's not shy.

Well this sounds promising!

Sorry that was a typo r3k1355 I meant 300 miles. I live in cornwall...

I was just wondering how they would drift as they don't rev very high but I guess you just have too use the rev range differently too a petrol...

I've got an e46 330d with a broken turbo and it still flashes up the traction control light relatively easily. Getting the turbo fixed next week and I can't wait. (open diff as standard remember)

The 2.0s feel like they pick up the revs a little bit quicker than the 3.0s but it may just be because mine is broken

Sounds promising then mate, will go and look at the car tonight !
Do you know if the tourings still suffer with the subframe mounts cracking like the coupes?

I have no idea but I would assume so. More bracing wouldn't do any harm though. Not sure if someone else can enlighten us? You'll need to look into what fuse to take out to stop it going into limp mode. If/when you spin and you don't get on the clutch soon enough the computer thinks that there is an engine fault and puts it into limp/safe mode. You wont be able to rev above 2000rpm and it will altogether feel like bum. You know its in limp mode because of this and because the starting noise changes. I think its a simple fuse out job but I wouldn't be able to tell you which one it is.

They all suffer from it to some extent, though they say later E46s in general don't suffer it, but that's bollocks, they all do if used hard enough.

Not a massive deal though, just deal with it if/when it happens. Easier than dealing with massive rust holes on 200SXs and MX5s and stuff.

Oh really?? The 320d's known for doing this are they??
I'm assuming switching the car on and off again wouldn't take it out off limp mode?

I can't say much for the quality of the drifting but still.. apparently its a 320d

Looks like an open diff too...

Yer your right, cheers man

The Merc OM606 is a monster worth considering with buckets of potential.

3.0, DOHC, 24v, Turbo, IDI.

What's not to love?

My remapped E39 530d puts out nearly 500Nm and 220bhp, and is faster than most things on the road. I reckon it'll be a beast when I finally get somebody up here to weld my diff.

your 300 miles away from a drift day? cornwalls not that big, check out bladworks on facebook. we have a drift day on sunday at perranporth
This! Find Bladworks on facebook for a Perranporth drift day. You've also got Smeatharpe just past Exeter. Save yourself a fortune on travelling costs!

I've been down to Perran a couple of times and it's a good laugh.

Buy the latest issue of BMW Car magazine, digital copy came out today (only 3quid), paper version out in a few days.

Full 7 page feature on a 400bhp+ 700lbft E46 330D. Standard internals and standard box too, reliable and still gives good mpg on a run too. I wrote the thing and tell you in full detail exactly what's done, so no reason not to be able to replicate it if you want.

Nice! I'm gonna buy it right now.
