Got a used diff the other day, but I have no clue what it might be. I was hoping that you guys might help me out. All I know is, that it doesn't look like viscous :D I've included 5 pics to help, don't really know if they will be of any though.

My first impression is that its a Kaaz because of the holage. But its probably not. Hoping for AnyWAy Diff 1 Way, 1.5 Way, 2 WAY.. Doesn't matter :D I'd be happy reguardless. Just not a ViscousWay :smash:

woah, cheack out the size of that bastid!! lol, the dif in my car is like the size of a clentched fist!

Thats coz 86s arent expected to have any POWAH!!!:D

They all look pretty much the same, cant see for the crown wheel but when you look in the hole is the metal cut out in the diamond shape? If it is then its a two way

Here are some more pics where the hole is more visible

Hope that is half a diamond shape

It would be nice if is an ATS diff, do any of you have any experience with them? Seems like most people either have Cusco or Nismo diffs.

Is there any way of finding out the make of the diff? Is there a serial number somewhere if it were to be taken apart for a overhaul? I'm guessing that overhaul kits are very diff specific so some form of serial number would have to be given in order to order one. I'm a bit of a muppet still when it comes to the Technicality of diffs, so be patient my friends :D

I don't really want to take it apart, I'll check if its working 100% when on the car. It will be an interesting drive back home after fitting

Blackbetty: I could still smell that diff oil in the flat 4 hours after I'd opened it up. Didn't know it would be that strong! :D

I can't see that well but it doesn't look like a diamond shape to me so would be a 1 way I would think.
If its a ATS I would hope its a DEFT FORCE as they are the nuts.
Pretty risky buying a second hand plated diff, best of luck
Alex

Its got to be worth a tear down before the season starts, just to check the state of the plates and bearing play. Then you'll know what your diff is, and that its going to be good for the season.

more pics..

Maybe these will shed some light on the issue of which way this LSD is.

Phatbob: In taking the LSD apart, how will I find what model it is? Is there a specific bit that I should look at/for. Don't really want to take it apart myself as I'm no mechanic :smash:

Anyone know the costs of an overhaul? Overhaul Kits? Or prices of a condition check?

:worthy: Help so far Much appreciated guys :worthy:

I'm happy with that! :D Atleast the uprated oil in there is a small indication of usage. Now can't wait to get it on the car

Alex: Thanks for the recommendation mate, much appreciated!

Woohoo! Entering the world of Mech LSD :D :D :D :D :D :smokin:
