Drift Diffs

there lots of different diffs out there I see the EVO chap has gone for a tomei and I remember Phil had a nismo which ended in a sad way and I saw Hates recently got his cusco.

Whose been running what diff the longest ?

As for all the different names etc I think the only thing that interests me is whose has given them the least grief with the install and the best longevity.

If you don't mind Lenagh i'd like to add a question to this too :)

2 way LSD - Been told that you can't really engine brake anymore as it will lock the wheels. Is it possible to coast along, say in 4th at about 40/50mph with no feet on the pedals? Or will I be leaving 2 black lines all down the road :)

Cheers

I think it will lock up mate thats how you get the lift off oversteer.

I know that one person I know finds it difficult to get away from the lights in a hurry the diff is that aggressive :wack: I thought that was kinda cool lol.

yea course you can still do that!! but heavy engine braking, or it the wet/ ice etc will mean that the back may have a tendency to step out as the diff will be applying a lot higher percentage of lock than a standard diff would do..

plus you can alter the percentages you want it to lock on acceleration and deceleration so you can make it less harsh on deceleration if you wish....

Oh, and sell me your wheels steve!!! :smash:

in fact as its my birthday you can give them to me!!

haha, I think someone has explained that to you wrong! when it 'locks' under braking decelaeration it doesn't mean it locks up the wheels, just locks as in stops them turning at different speeds

Lenagh my Nismo Diff is still running strong, it was a botched initial install that broke the housing, the diff itself is still 100% fine..

ATS Deftforce is supposed to be the strongest LSD you can buy. Over $1000 US for it mind (plus shipping)... Developed by Ueno (of T&E/Vertex/Legerfort etc) and ATS for Drift.

Thats excellent news :) does this mean you have the longest running 2 way diff on here ? :smash:

My KAAZ 2-way has been in for feckin ages, and had the shit drifted out of it for about 2-3 years.

Only ever problem was the less than perfect set-up and a worn OE pinion bearing. The diff itself is bombproof (in AE86 terms) and the clutches last a long time with regular oil changes.

Just get it setup right (lash and bearing preload, VERY important).

You can't go wrong with a Cusco 2 way :D
I would have thought Brett(Opt) would have the longest running 2 way as I am pretty sure he had one before I put one in the black 86 about 3 years ago

How often and how do you maintain it?

or you can weld it up and forget about it it does the job and i never have to change the oil in it :)

Better than welding would be to drill and pin the output shafts. Its difficult to get a weld that will stick because you are trying to weld cast iron to gear steel on an oily surface. I know of large number of welded diffs that have failed. Drilling and pinning is something that can be done with a decent drill, bit and some cutting fluid.

mine ent snapped yet and i do give it some proper stick, am going for an uprated vlsd one anyway, its murder on the road and tyring to park
