Drift Spec Toyota Prius in D1GP

So, we made a visit to the Tokyo Auto Salon this year, and we snapped this apparently drift spec looking Toyota Prius. Does anyone have more info on it though? It is quite strange to see such a silent car drifting.

Yeah, probably not. But I wonder how long before anyone will dare venture into something like using a modified Tesla engine/ Rimac One or something similar. I mean, I think there is a BMW E30 in Europe, doing 9 seconds on electric power on 402metres. Electrical drifting= instant torque, if you can make enough power and grunt so to say. Don't get me wrong, I'm all about petrol and I hope petrol power never dies, but I am willing to make a bet that someone will show up with a competitive electrical/hybrid drift car within the next 5 years.
 
Soon hybrid or full electric cars will dominate any motorsport they're allowed in to.

All the performance, all the time, no combustion engine can do that.

A fully electric car has done Pikes Peak in 9min 8sec, that's the 3rd fastest time ever up there when it's been a full length course.

No performance drop off at altitude either.
 
I think I remember an electric car that had different engine noises coming out through the speakers, to mimic regular engine sound. Or maybe electrical units that are more powerful will still generate some sort of loud noise which some may find interesting.
 
I guess you get good torque from electric motors. I'm not convinced tyre squeal is the best noise in professional drifting
 
So true look at formula e, aside from the fact it's like watching slot cars (no overtaking) the only sound it's the slight tyre sqeel.
I think it'll be pretty sweet when someone starts introducing retro fitted TRS systems for older engines, imagine huge turbos acting like superchargers.

I dont see what the problem is, huge torque available from 0 rpm is never a bad thing - the Nissan ZEOD did a full lap of the Circuit de la Sarthe (Le Mans) last year on electric and was only about 10 seconds off the back of the GT cars, with the speed of development it wont be long before its challenging at the front.
