May be of interest for a number of reasons ..
1) If you were there you maybe on the vids, Lozza was, as was "Smokin' Mike Walton
2) Only time I have seen Drift Angle measured and shown on a video, also g-forces/g-circle
3) Can a Circuit Racer Drift?
4) Can you drift without kicking the clutch, yanking the wand?
5) Ride on board with the 'oldest drifter in town' LOL
So, there are about 6 sessions from around 11:00am through to the end. I was in the Flatout Factory E36 Compact (see pic later)
I was testing the gyro option in the Race-Technology DL1 (at least thats what I told the wife). With the gyro option you can measure yaw, pitch and roll and, using GPS heading and Yaw you can estimate the Drift Angle. The unit also has on-board accelerometers so you get 'real' g-force measurements.
I'm no Drifter, or not a conventional one at least. I've been a circuit racer for 25years+ and an Instructor/Driver Coach for almost as long. I have used Drift Practice days in the past to train circuit racers in car-control. I have also Rallied and coached Rally drivers and one of the 'jobs' I have is giving passenger rides in a V8 Touring car where we 'get the arse out' a bit (or a lot if we can get away with it).
So, my 'style' as such is very much a circuit racers trying to Drift. Not letting go of the wheel (much), no 'monster' angles or tyre shreddin runs. I'm not adept (never tried) at clutch kicks or using the handbrake, I never used it in Rallying either!
I'm also a tad longer in the tooth than most Drifters but as long as I can .. I will
Now for the vids.
This is a compilation video (various camera angle i.e. 2)
These are full sessions that appear in shorter form in the above.
One for tyresmoke fans, full session chasing "Smokin" Mike Walton who appears not to have 'lifted' for the entire run!!
Following the gorgeous R32 of Laura "Lozza" Hinks
And this was the car, thanks to Tom Hutchinson of Flatout Factory for the rental.
