I might also be interested. Pending pics, and if the LSD is ripe for rapage.

If the diffs sweet and you are dropping it out Mikey (LSD is soooo un Tramp Drift), then I'll deal on that if it will fit my 735i. Bon said it does, but every time he tells me a BM diff fits it doesn't since he has no ACTUAL knowledge, just E21, M50, S50, M62, E31, E24, M20, M30 blah blah fucking blah.

Did the gay ginger prince show you my pimp 9J Zenders??

Adam, I text you (or I think I did) saying my dad fucked me up and wasn't happy with keeping the bits. But I might be able to keep it at mothers so let me know.

Willhelm, the diff should fit fine but if you get me a couple of digi pics of your diff/subframe from underneath then I could tell you. If your's has 6 bolts on the side of the diff around where the half-shafts come out, not 4 or 8 (not the flange which bolts to the driveshaft, actually ON the diff itself), then the diff itself should be the same. The cover plates are all interchangeable between the mid-sized diffs so I beleive.

I wouldn't want the LSD btw will, just want suspension arms, engine/gearbox, driveshafts, maybe ARBs and other little bits I can keep for spares.

Actually mike there's a lot more to it than that, different output sizes and internals size with similar casings, depending on year and month of manufacture, auto, manual, etc.

Not simple like E30s.

Hmm that's gay. Well, if you said it will fit with your years/months/autos/manuals, then I'll go with your idea then :)

BMW Diffs:

Small diff (sometimes known as the Gay Diff) is fitted to all E30's apart from the 325i, late '84 to mid '85 323i and the M3. Also fitted to 324td and 325e which were not UK models. Everything else has the small casing diff which is okay but not very strong. Ratios from 4.4 to 3.25.

'Typ 188' diff. This started life in the E28 5 Series in 1981. It's fitted to all E28's apart from the 535i and M535i and of course the M5. With a change of output shafts and alloy rear cover it was used also in the E30 325i, late 323i's and the M3. It was also used in the E24 628CDi but NOT the 635CSi.
In another form it was used in the E34 5 Series. From July 1990 it was used in the 530i and 535i inc. the 535i Sport. E34 outer casings are different to the E30/E28 types but the intermals swap over. Put another way if you found a 535i Sport or 525i Sport from H plate onwards you can rob the LSD pack and fit it into an E30 188 casing.
The only 188 diff which won't swap bits over is the 525e E28 diff - the crownwheel is thicker for some reason. Ratios from 4.4 (Carburettor 518 E28) right up to 2.93 (525e)

'Typ 210' diff: The Big B*stard. First seen in the E23 7 Series it can be spotted by the drain plug on the iron diff casing rather than the alloy rear casing. The 210 was used directly in the E28 535i/M535i and the 635CSi (6/82 on). This diff bolts straight into an E30 axle beam BUT the output shafts are too big and the Typ 188 shafts don't fit because the shaft that goes into the diff are a lot bigger on the 210. Also there is no rear cover for the 210 that mates up to an E30 diff mount.
The 210 was also used in the E32 7 Series (87-94) and in early pre 7/90 530i and 535i. It used a special casing which doesn't fit an E30/E28 but the internals such as the LSD unit fit an E28 210. Also, the E32 and E34 used a six bolt prop flange as opposed to the four bolt on the E28. Ratios from 3.91.

The upshot?
E28 diffs all interchange. You can fit a 188 into a 210 car and vice versa.

E30 diffs also swap over. To fit a 188 big case into a car with a small case diff, just slacken the sliding spline collar on the prop and tap it back 20 mm and bolt it all up.

To build a cheap E30 LSD using a 9/90 H plate onwards 535i Sport or 525i Sport diff, rob the LSD pack and fit it to the E30 diff.

E34/E32 diffs. There are plenty of LSD's out there so just swap the complete unit. They aren't worth a toss (£150 tops) so it's not worth building one up.
