E36 328 m52 engine into an E46 can it be done?

Afternoon ladies and Gents,

A friend of mine has an e46 318i compact with a blown headgasket, basically what i need to know is can we use an e36 M52 328i engine and loom in his e46? We got the E36 donor car already as I thought his was an E36.

Obviously this is not the case and now I've looked at the looms or what I can see at the top of the engine bays and I'm not sure.

Can anyone shed a little light on this?

This can be done, but its alot more hassle than its worth.

Engine mounts are different, and looms require splicing it's not plug and play like an E46 engine would be

Thanks for the reply, I thought as much. Had a good look over the wiring today and straight away could see it was going to be a ball ache.

Will just have to sell the e36 and find a e46 with everything we need on it.
