looking to buy my next car and am stuck.
Its between e36 328 or e46 330 ?
Is the extra power worth it ?
Its going to be a daily drifter, is the e46 much worse as a drift car ?
Cheers

The E46 doesn't have an LSD, not much of a problem if you intend to weld the diff but they're rubbish for skidding out the box.
They're pokey enough, I loved my 330ci but it was quite a lazy engine.

If I were to have a choice, I'd go for an E36 328 coupe. I'd feel less guilty about smashing it up then.

Im loving my e36 328 atm. Long as your not stupid and start ripping it apart to save 20 grams then it's actually pretty refined for day to day driving. Nice place to be imo. Far nicer than my previous s13s and mx5s anyway.

Currently got an m50, decat, air filter with heatshield with a remap making about 230bhp. Just waiting on the 3.23 lsd to go on, but certainly pulls well and is quicker than my friends e46 330.

One thing I will say is the 330 engines don't like revs as much as the 328 lumps, seen that most places offer uprated oil pump shafts as they have a tendency of the nut coming loose or the shaft braking When being used at higher revs for prolonged periods.

Having owned a few of both id go for the 330.
The 3.0 has a lot better bottom end response and ultimately is a good chunk more powerful throughout.
E46s are starting to become the better value for money too as 36s become more popular.
They drift just as well if not better than a 36 out the box.
Main cons are oil use/leaks, boot floors tearing apart (not unheard of for 36s too though) and general clunky rear ends.
Fit a 330auto diff when getting your weld on to liven them up even more.
