Hey, I'm a beginner looking to get into drifting, specifically for a car that'll allow me to practice and improve well rather than a car that'll give me fast times. I've seen a lot of posts about the e36 convertible having a bad distribution and was wondering if that'll hinder my practice.

I've found convertibles for much cheaper than coupes/sedans, and as a high school student that'll make all the difference for other mods such as Suspension, LSD, and reserve for possible repairs. Convertible also wont be a downside for me as I live in california.

I'll be putting a roll cage in the car for stiffness and safety. I'll also be reinforcing the rear subframe whether or not I get a vert.

I know there are many questions about the e36 vert as a drift car, but I haven't seen anybody really bring up whether they felt a difference that'd be significant to someone simply planning on practicing and getting good. Thanks in advance for the help!

Followup: Since i'm putting in a roll cage I have no issue with stripping the rear for weight reductions, (not gonna have rear passengers with a cage), if this makes a difference in your answer.

They're just slightly heavier but also feel very unconnected.
A cage and no doubt some form of LS in the future and it'll be fine.
It'll go sideways so will be good enough to learn in, what engine are you looking at?

Havent thought about swapping atm, was planning on upgrading headers, intake, eventually adding a turbo and of course a tune all onto the stock engine.
If that's not optimal I'm definitely taking suggestions though, I have thought about LS1 as a cheap swap but I'd wanna hear outside opinions.

will the disconnected feel go away with the cage or is it something inevitable.

(the cage i've gotten quotes alsp has the lower door bars included, so itll connect front to back through the whole vehicle)
