e36 M3 (3.0) LSD and stock e36 LSD differences

Hi!

As above, could someone tell me the differences? They are both medium case, and the only differences I know are the flanges and the ratio is different too. But both locks 25% stock. If I remember correctly they both have 4 clutch disks.
So the question: I know a guy, who would throw in 8 clutch disks instead of 4. Do I get the same result if I use the stock one for that or is the M3 one better in some ways?
(oh, and I don't prefer a welder, this one is a daily)

Thank you for your help!

All medium case e36s LSDs are the same except the input flanges. The 328 ones have a different ratio though the M3 ratio is better for drifting.

Both methods will increase lock on this diff.... Upto you wich you go for.

Also, crown wheel and pinions can be swapped between all medium case diffs even E30 and 5series so you can pretty much choose the ratio you want if you are doing a major rebuild....

Thanks Gibson! These things are good to know. :) I'll stick with the "8 clutch disks" method and I'll search for a shorter ratio too.

2DRIFT: wow, this is an amazing guide.. Thank you for posting it! I'll read it through before doing anything to my diff.
