ive got a 323 and thinking about doing his but how strong are they?

if its going to snap shafts every 5 mins its prob not going to be worth it and i think i will go 3.15 instead but interested in knowing he reliability

They don't snap shafts every five minutes.

Ive got one on my 325 and it breaks a shaft about every four months, and its used as a daily with a few skid days chucked in too (never broken one at a skid day).

Plus you can still drive home if they break haha.

You could always use the drive flanges out the medium case diff, cut them down and weld them in then you can use 325 shafts if your that worried.

My mates got one on his 323 and he has never broke one, used as a daily aswell.

yeah i just found some info on using the small case diff and the medium case flanges.. would just need the rear part of the prop too from what i can make out

I get through more engines than shafts! lol

Have a small case diff setup in my e36, used to have a 2.5 M50 in it and now have a 2.8 in. No problems with diffs/shafts yet

If you end up using the medium shafts, you'll need to cut about 10mm off the end so they fit, then weld them in around the entire seam. I didnt and mine is a bit leaky.

just to revive this one, ive got the diff and the rear half of the prop.

im planning on changing the output flanges for the meduim case ones so i can keep the 323 shafts

someone has said 10mm and someone else has said 5mm from what ive found... can anyone just confirm that for us?

323 and 328 shafts are wank, they're hollow.
If you're going to all the hassle of converting that diff to medium case shafts you should use 325 ones.

Why not use small case shafts?

mainly because it means i would have to buy some and i already have the others ones and some spares that im pretty sure i got of you...

As far as I can gather, it's usually the cv joints that break, I've done many drift days on my small case with 323 shafts with no issues.

Just grind enough off til they fit in properly

pretty sure it was a couple of driveshafts... could be wrong though!

well all the flanges are cut down so should get it welded this week hopefully

Argh ye I remeber, the 323 shafts?

Ye the bloke that picked them up had a winge becuase they wernt wrapped together as one package, so I offered to cable tie them together but he just said dont worry about it.
