E36 (Winchester) In need of a MASSIVE Favour

Hi guys, i'll keep it brief.

I need a flatbed/trailer to get my E36 from Chandlers Ford to somewhere near this area that will be able to drill out a stud from the steering hub, put a new one in, finish off installing my HSD coilovers and do it all for respect, a few beer tokens, a little for fuel and hopefully a new friendship

The long story however;

Me and a mate were fitting my new monopro HSD's to my '98 E36 328 earlier today. We got the Offside (Drivers) front coilover unit on and when doing the nearside (passenger) one of the bottom two bolts that go into the hub sheared off, leaving half a stud in the hub, and half the stud in my socket. We went through all possible ideas on what to do, each involving spending money that i don't have so the only option would be to drill and tap a new hole (all of which i can do) but i need someone else who has been round E36's for a long time as i've only had mine a week and want to get the job done fast and properly. Also when we decided to bolt it all back up and crawl back home doing 30 there's a really loud knocking coming from both sides of the front suspension. All the bolts (apart from the sheared one) are done up tight, wheels are on fine etc. Sounds like it's hitting once every revolution, the wheels and calipers are clear and we can't work out where it's coming from.

Really, i need the car repaired and running again ASAP, preferably tomorrow/sunday and i know that it's a big ask but i really need this done. Even for a man of 20 i'm almost verging on tears as i have two broken Mx5's too, one of which has an expired MOT and requires loads of welding so i'm breaking it even though i love it to bits and was my first car, the other some ballbag hit into me after i'd had it a week.

If you know anyone, or a group of people that could come to my rescue i'll be eternally greatful,
Thanks
JD

Thanks for the offer dude, but unless i can put my caliper, and bearing etc on it then it'll be useless. I'm being a right nonce here, but can you put the bearing onto a different hub or are they pressed in?

Cheers

I dont know about your local area, but I do alot of on site/in situ drilling, re-threading, timeserting etc, might be worth having a google or flicking through your yellow pages for local engineers....?

I changed coilovers on my 328 recently - one of my front hub bolts was snapped like yours by whoever fitted the old ones and had been like it for years. I reckon you would be surprised how much load they can take with one bolt missing ;)
I got a complete hub for £10 from my local scrapper.

You can get a tool kinda like a drill bit with a slight taper on it. You drill a hole in the center of the bolt then this winds in the opposite direction and unthreads th broken bolt.
I think its called an easy out, prob £20 a set but worth having

Cheers for all the help guys, easy outs are shit and never work, especially on rusted threads, jussayin'

In the end, we worked out what the knocking is from someone on Pistonheads, inner wheel weights were hitting which matched up with each revolution so that was solved with some 5mm spacers!

I got down to the scrappie and pikeyed a 318 hub for £24 along with some new door handles, which i've found out don't fit. Bollocks.

Today me and a mate then fitted the hub and the coilover but it took us a good few hours because we were acting like bellends and messing around. His car ended up having the imprint of my arse on the passenger door, because he did something a bit worse to mine.
But anyway, all is sorted, jsut letting the coilover settle a bit as they're currently about 15mm out from each other height wise. Tomorrow we're putting on new discs and pads hopefully along with the rears, and then adjusting the height of the fronts too, WOOO!!

Thanks again lads and ladettes
