E39 530d manual, fuelling issue???

OK I'm new on here first time posting but been following threads on here a while now.

So basically Iv bought my first project.
It's an e39 530d manual. Plans as a drift slut, have it stripped out bucket seat and welded diff, cars been lying up about a year though and won't start, will start on spray of easy start leading me to believe it's a fuelling issue.?? I'm completely new to working on cars so if anything sounds stupid please forgive me..

I started by checking the 2 fuel pumps in the tank on the multimeter they both read OK 12.5 or so, and chsed it up to what I assume is either a fuel filter or surge tank(pictured below) in the bay from what I can see fuel is getting to the fuel rail so I'm assuming next step is to remove that and test injectors. I have no idea how to go about this so could do with some advice, last night I removed the intake manifold (which has a lot of carbon deposits) cleaned out the throttle body as it had serious carbon build up also) there's a part of me thinking old diesel could have blocked the injectors?? Anyone any idea on how to go about removing and testing the fuel rail and injectors? Any body with similar experiences or knowledge all advice would be appreciated.

Update so I've found 2 wet injectors, assuming they're leaking and could be the root of the problem, hopefully just replace the copper washers and we will have life. Getting a loan of a computer this week to check the fault codes if still no joy.

Tip.. removing stubborn injectors, pipe grips are ideal and if you screw back on one of the hard lines and use it as a grip while you get a prybar(or one side of the pipe grips) to get under the collar should come out easy enough

First of all I'd be getting an egr blanking kit fitted, that egr looks bad inside, if it starts and runs fine after easy start then the injectors are likely okish, if it's had a life of easy start they become junkies to the stuff, its bad for long term use in my experience, I'm assuming it's the 193bhp motor, and for skidding I'd definitely advise dome bracing, either struts bracing or welding something in, the E39 is a big chassis and can twist up the front end (my mate bent his 528i on the front the day he welded the diff, it just started to twist) the diesel motor doesn't really have enough wheel speed at stock to keep it spinning unless it's wet, decat and stage 1 remap should give you enough to run into 3rd gear, but the range of power is very short, I'm currently running a 330d msport with a welded diff, egr delete, cat delete to straight through, 2.28 ratio diff, so not ideal, but with 16s it will spin up all day, (had to grind the caliper down a small amount to clear the 16" rim).
Although stock on a wet day my 530d msport is lovely to slide around on its open diff, just don't give it to much or it swings like pendulum on crack.
