hello everyone, i have an e30 project that im putting an m50 in for drifting however im after something i can attend a few drift days and knock about in my 2 choices are

e39 540i manual

or

e36 328i

the cars are roughly the same price and the insurance is only £100 more for the 540i

what do people recommend?

Hi. I had an E36 M3 for a bit, then sold it and a couple years later. Bought an E39 540i (already drift specced), did 2 drift days in it and immediately sold it to get a 328i.

the 540 has the nice torque and the nice noises but for everything else i'd go E36.

right the only thing thats pushing me towards the 540i is that if i get into drifting and no its something i want to do i can then swap the v8 into my e30, i was going to go m50 turbo but swaying towards the v8, do they drift ok, as in to start with will i be ok in one?

must be a posh 328 if it's the same price as a manual 540.

the 540i sold, it was advertised for £1500 but me being tight didnt get to £1350 what he was asking over the weekend, called him this morning and it sold last night, slightly gutted as they dont come up often and especially at that price

Plenty of Romanians selling cheap manual 540i 's in London, you guys are just not looking hard. Most of them have cooling issue that are easily solved. That's why after quick test drive steam comes out of the radiator. My suggestion will always be E36 and preferably M50B25

The lacquer was peeling? How do you think it will look after a few rear tyre delaminations?
:wack:
I just picked up a 530i with added steam (fixed now), it's very refined but feels massive compared to an e36.

5 Series is too heavy to enjoy it properly. The engine is fine and fun, but the weight kills it.
The Sound is just phenomenal but not much else.
As a Daily the 540i rocks, but it's no track car.

540i is a big heavy car but is still very good, especially as its got a V8.
328i E36 has a very good engine and you can turbo it. but so many people have e36's you would just blend in imo. But who said you wanted to be different? :p

+1 to the E39 540i
