e46 318 driftable?

There's no such thing as not enough power...
It will be hard work to skid but it is possible, weld the diff and get some skinny wheels for the rear to skid on and put 65psi in the tires:D

If it's just your pimp daily and you've already got a skid car then I wouldn't bother tbh. Welding the diff will have an impact on fuel economy and most probably on your licence as you'll have to drive it hard to skid it.

E30? maybe, why not! But 1.8 and a heavy pig is just asking for trouble. I mean you might as well buy a FWD and go arab style drifting because to be honest you are just going to rely on momentum all the time with that E46.

Fucking bollocks, it will drift fine, you just need to learn to drift without power.
Get the suspension & geometry setup right and a welded diff and it will drift, fact.

Pump the tyres up loads. Run a limmy or welded diff and it will drift fine. Just give it plenty of man foot and be committed.

what he said. will be a challenge but soo rewarding ha ha ha

my 1.4 volvo has enough power for some skids, I'm looking to upgrade to an e36 318 because it should have a better power to weight ratio. So yes, I hope it's possible!

Good lad:thumbs:
318is is best, I'm thinking about getting one as my next missile, they don't over heat like the 6 pots tend to do.
Dude, once your fully awesome skidding something without huge power you'll get in an s-body with power and be fully epic:thumbs:

it will drift but what kind of drift that will be? proper struggle in dry but can be loads of fun in wet like outlon park practice

I had trouble skidding in my e30 318, but as soon as I stiffened it up a bit it stepped out real nice, although Im sure if you sold the 318 you could build/buy a much more capable drift car.....but when has easy been fun?

a friend of mine can skid a 1.4 volvo 340 in the dry yes it takes bollocks and plnety of manfoot but it will go.
alternatvly sell your 318 e46 and buy my 323 e46 which does drift quite well considering it still runs the gay open diff

I see people drifting old merc 190e's with welded diffs All the time (I've done it myself). And they are mega underpowered heavy barges. As soon as you brake traction there is no reason at all why the bimmer won't slide fairly well.

I've been told there is no torque to these though im gonna stick one in my bmw 316i compact
diff needs welding first
im going to lower on coilies low get angle grinder out cut all metal i can find out then poly bush and strut brace it

what would be the best geometry setup to get the 318 stepping out? mine goes in the wet but feels a bit skittish, doesn't help that my steering is nackered at the min
