E46 good starter for skids?

Hi guys, new to this and bought my second BMW today.

Managed to pick up an E46 328 with a plumbed in hydro and welded diff for £350.

10 month MOT and taxed till December with full leather interior however it needs a propshaft joining bearing and noticed a couple of holes underneath.

Just wondering if this is a good starter car or am I better swapping it for something else?

anything cheap and rwd is good for starting, it wont take long for you to knock it around.

Fuck it for the price you paid it will be fine! I spent a fair bit more on my E46 and then I shat it after I read about the rear subframe issues so I sold it but for £350 you're laughing even if it goes.

whats wrong with em?

Check Google for "E46 Subframe crack" and will come up with heaps of stuff. Normally on M3's but a few early ones were effected. Since I had a 99 coupe I decided I'd rather sell it and get something cheaper/stronger than risk it going on my daily and me getting fucked.
Doubt it'll happen but I just wasn't keen on chancing it since the car was my daily driver and planned to be my skidder too.

I wasn't aware of any rear subframe issues so cheers for the heads up.

It wasn't a red E46 you just sold on Friday was it? haha sounds pretty coincidental...

They are great and good value at the mo..

When all the E36s are drifted into the walls and destroyed, E46s will replace them.

Subframe issue isnt the end of the world and is an easy fix if you can weld. Mine tore the mount clean out the shell but a days work and it is good as gold again.

Haha nah mate I never got round to welding the diff. After reading about the issues I stopped skidding it and put it up for sale. Boy that bought it off me wasn't skidding it so won't be mine if its got a welder and hydro in it. Tidy cars, If I wasn't skidding it I'd have it as a daily for sure.

E46 is fine for skids. Just don't be surprised if they are a little tougher to get used to than jap stuff. Oh also FYI if it spins and you dont get the clutch in quick enough it will put itself into limp mode restricting the revs etc. Someone with a computer can turn it off, or give yourself 10 mins and google and you can pull a fuse or disconnect something.
