Earls Colne Airfield, -Earls Colne, COLCHESTER, Essex CO6 2NS. Tel 01787 223943, 223676, fax 01787 224246
(this maybe a grass runway!)

Weathersfield
Gardiner Associates took a lease on land at Wethersfield in March 2000 and commenced practical fire investigation training in May of that year. In January 2001 Wethersfield began also to be used for National Police Training stage 2 probationer training. Wethersfield is also used by Essex County Fire & Rescue Service, who have an impressive practical flashover training facility there, The London Fire Brigade, for advanced driver training and by Essex County Ambulance Service for paramedic training
BINGO!

Debden airfield is close to me, they allow people on there if there is at least one person from the forces present, not sure on insurance though as it is joined onto an army base and people walk there dogs on it.

tried debden,no good ,they have only very limited days and noise issues
the airfield in colchestre looks good

I replied in the other thread, but......

Im gonna take a mosey on down to the old Ford site at Boreham in the Evo tomorrow and see what I can find out. I'll drop in on my buddy who has worked with the Rallyesport guys on the way and see what info I can weedle out of him ;) :D

Weatherfield and Denham both hold sprints, I will try and get hold of the Chelmsford motorclub guy that organizes them.
There is a disused old airfield thing near maldon area I think, farmer owns it as I remember we used it in a night rally.
Boreham is pretty much just a gravel works now, think the track is pretty bad as its all closing.
Tried Earls Colne it is just a grass strip now :(
I know Arena essex is ok, the oval so pretty dangeous and not really drifting, it is cheap though.
Gosfield is not good really as the middle of the track is raised tarmac for the test runs, so the surface is not the same for more than about 6m wide.
I got a list of places that holds sprints.
What about Lydd and Lyden in kent? Anyone up for that? I am sure one of those would let us have a go, not ideal but not too back if its cheap.
There are a few places I know that are ok for a night practice without much bother if anyone fancy' it when I get my corolla sorted???

Another one round here is Hadstock - I will try and find out who owns it. Apparently it is haunted.

Spoke to my man today who has worked with Ford RallyeSport in the past and he is going to make enquiries about the state of play with the track.

I'll keep you posted.

I have a response for the e-mail conserning wetherfield

i have a contact who is waiting for a call
who wants it!

or rather who's in charge?

post you e-mail address and i'll forward the mail

Im in no way in charge, but I do live five minutes from Wethersfield so would be happy to call/meet someone tomorrow.

If Phil or James want to do it as this is their site and they actually know what they are talking about, whereas I know very little about not a lot then thats ok too.

My addy is james@gtr.co.uk

This for the local boys to go there or a proper organized(big) drift day?
Think Phil might have a good letter to send someone and tell them what driftings about, saw this on SXOC a while back.
I don't mind speaking to someone about a few cars going up and hiring a part of the runway but not got the time to organize anything, maybe Nick wants to take it on as he has lost NW?

If your popping up to Weathersfield on a recce drop me a PM, I wouldnt mind a look myself.

Thanks for the info Rob,

I phoned twice today but no-one answered so I guess mod plod doesnt do weekends !! :D :D
I will try again tomorrow on the off chance and if successful will pm Steve to come take a looksee and post up results here.

James, if you're local to Wethersfield, like Steve says, it'd be great if you could pop down and have a word with them. It's a bit too far for me, phil or paz. As long as someone gets it sorted, it doesn't matter who :)

this was something we knocked up to send out to prospective venues. It's specifically worded to sound professional and non-dangerous ;) Feel free to use all or any of it if you're contacting sites about drifting:

What is Drifting?

Drifting is a motorsport discipline new to the UK that originates from Japan.

It is essentially the art of driving a car as sideways as possible for as long as possible round a conventional race circuit, linking slides and turns into one fluid, controlled movement.

It is a unique form of motorsport in that competitions are comprised of individual runs judged on style rather than the more conventional tradition of many cars on track at once, racing each other.
Although it might look like an extreme form of driving, the reality is that speeds are generally low and when mishaps do happen, its generally just a simple spin to a halt, before carrying on to the next turn.

Drifting has been recognised in Japan for the last 30 years, but has become hugely popular there in the last 15 years and is now a fully established national sport. America is following suit and had it’s first pro drift competition in mid 2003. Japanese drivers and their cars were shipped over to compete in front of a capacity crowd. The sport is currently in its infancy in the UK, but is very quickly gaining recognition and popularity both as an easily accessible amateur motorsport and a very popular spectator attraction.

In the UK at the moment, entry fees are small and any rear wheel drive road car can take part in the competitions. All that’s needed is a helmet, the ability to learn and think fast and a serious passion for driving.

that sounds good.

i emailed the details to bladerider.

i might be able to pop down at some stage, but i'd rather someone came with me.

perhaps i could met steve and well go have a look
