Greetings folks. I meant to make a thread on here about my shitbox a while back, but never got around to it.
I have a handful of RX-7's 'cause I'm a big rotary guy. Bought my first one with a killed engine, rebuilt, sold, and then I bought this one from a buddy of mine before he moved back to Japan.
Originally didn't have those wheels on it, had some really rad Enkei's but I can't remember which type. Anyway, long story short, I was getting tires mounted on the old wheels and such, and someone at the shop apparently forgot to torque my lugs. So, cruising through a local mountain road, well, wheels flew off and were ruined. So, me, needing wheels ASAP to get back and forth to work, had to pick up some ol' cheapies. Though that doesn't really have much to do with anything, I just wanted to explain my terrible wheel choice.
So anyway, one day, my turbo died. So I decided to park the car for a bit, considering I had just picked up my AE86 for a new daily driver. That's when I decided to do this.
Not long after, started to tear down the car, sand blasted, and caged it up.
Then we started really getting into fiberglass and carbon fiber stuff. Soooo, decided to make this for it, instead of putting the stock dash back in.
Bridgeported the engine, coated everything, bossed it up, made a pretty legit manifold.
Also picked up a nice transmission for it, considering I wanted to make big power, the stocker wouldn't hold.
Car finally got painted while I was in Tokyo, buddy sent pictures, looked really amazing.
Until you see it in person, runs everywhere, just shitty all around.
So anyway, fast forward to last week. We finally got the car totally together, and all that stuff.
Here's a shot about to put it on the dyno for the tune.
It made around 600hp @ 10psi. I was really pleased with the safe tune. We were in a MAJOR hurry to get the car done so we could take it back to our shop (which now has a paint booth) to paint it and leaving for Road Atlanta.
I was supposed to get to Road Atlanta around 8am, we managed to throw the car in the paint booth at around 5:30am, sprayed it black, it looked half way decent, so we decided to not clear the car, due to time constraints.
It came out pretty good, in my opinion. But now, as you all know, a drift car is not complete without stickers, including ones on the interior.
Did a few rad skids around Road Atlanta.
Pulled a Matt Powers, and ended my day pretty early.
I've only driven the car 4 times since we've finished it, all of those being at Road Atlanta over the weekend. I really had a blast with the car, it hauls major ass. I'm REALLY looking forward to Palm Beach next month now.
There was a lot more headache involved with building this car, as most folks can assume, I've owned this car since I first got my license years ago, so I scaled things down a bit. But it's been a long time coming, felt really good to drive it again.
