Need a car that will be affordable at 17 for both insurance and cost of car but can't find anything at the moment :(
Anyone know any cars that are affordable for a first car?

To be honest. At 17. Nothing will be affordable just have to make due for a couple years and not crash

Insurance on anything is going to be a couple of grand, I just wouldn't bother at those prices it's fucking mental.

I would go so far as to say you could buy a drift ready car for less than what it would cost you to insure a fwd shitbox. Realistically, unless you're Jack or Connor shanahan, you're fucked.

I had a clio for a year to build a years no claims, then insured a mk2 mx5 for around a grand I think

I doubt there will be anything RWD that is realistically insurable for a 17 yo... If you REAAALLLY want a RWD car now, a good option could be to buy a FWD shit box in your own name to get you about and start building no claims. Then buy a RWD/drifty car, put it in an older relatives name (dad perhaps?), pay for their insurance policy and then have yourself as a named driver on that policy...

best suggestion so far in terms of getting something for rwd fun

been through this all not so very long ago rolled round in a 1.0 polo 6n2 then got a 1.4 golf mk4 now got a bmw compact and love it just coming up to renewal time for taht and got 3 years no claims and gonna stick with it as cant afford to insure anything else

i still have my mk4 if your interested

Mx5's and bmws will be higher insurance at 17 because they are cheap for drifting and end up fucked or written off. Best bet is a old Volvo

Yep realistically you're best off buying a FWD car around the £1k mark that will get you by for a year, insurance will still be extortionate but nothing near as bad as insuring anything RWD.

To be honest, it's only became worth it to insure a RWD for me now that I've turned 21, I'm looking at around £600 to insure an imported MX5 on coilovers, and that's with 4 years NCB.

Honestly mate if you are quite ambitious with owning a descent car like that and have the money to buy one, I would say in my experience a 300zx is cheaper to insure than a 180sx/200sx. This sounds silly but to my surprise everywhere I go they charge less for the 300zx.
