Hi guys..

I turn 18 in November and going to get my own car and want to get into drifting( i know its ages away)
i am probably going to get a BMW 316i compact.

Any modification suggestions that wont add much to my insurance and any mods i can do which i dont have to declare or wont add anything? thanks

Do you think this will be a good beginner drift car? any problems with these i should look out for

Help is much appreciated.. Cheers!:)

Might have to look into that one!

Just got another quote for £1390.49 with interior modifications on elephant, always had great quotes with them.

Just hope the prices don't change to much over the next 10 months.. lol :L

Ill probably remove rear seats, put in racing seats and racing wheel, different BMW alloys and coilovers when i can afford that bit extra on my insurance:)

with just coil overs it went up to almost 1800!:O

Lemme know how you get on with your quotes :) on elephant i find you get cheaper insurance if you ad 2 or more drivers and say your vehicle has no tracker or immobilizer :)

Dude, that's pretty awesome.
From what I've heard a bucket seat is needed, so you don't just fall out the seat haha.
Yeah man I will do, how many drivers is on your's? Just the 2?

All you really need is a welded diff. Take it from me, I've drifted a 316i 4door with only a welder. They have good seats and good steering lock as standard. Wank handbrake, wank suspension and wank power, that's all. But you can deal with it. (You will NEVER need a handbrake with 1.6 powers!!!!)

When you can, chop the springs or put coilovers on.

IMO thats all you need to do. KISS - Keep It Simple, Stupid.

me too, quite difficult to stay in the stock seats going round courners quickly.. haha :L
also elephant offer a 10 month saver policy where you get NCB every 10 months instead of 12 wich also works out a few hundred quid cheaper :)

ive got my Nan, mum and dad on my policy all with over 20 years NCB :)

All the best to you mate.. good prices tbh. As has been said.. weld it and get a bucket seat and absolutely destroy it with skids. :)

im sure e36 316 compacts are so unwanted they're almost free, so you'll be able to get a good one!

Cheers mate!:) yeah they are, quite suprised tbh! especially when i was getting quotes around 1500-2500 for smaller, uglier and shittier cars!:L

I'd rather declare my mods and avoid having my insurance void and get fined tbh.. its only a couple quid more so nothing major...

Good work! especially as no insurance is 6 points, and inside your first 2 years of driving, thats a ban! Keep it legal and you'll be golden!

Sounds like your going about things the right way. My first insurance on my 1st rwd car wasnt cheap, but i loved the car ^^, lol
