First drift day and now im hooked!

So after being meaning to give drifting a try for aaaages, I finally went to a DWYB day at santa pod yesterday.

I had to go down by myself as my usual tag alongs were busy with work so I was a little nervous / lost at the beginning and wasnt really sure what to do. So I just went in the play pens floored it in first and saw what happened, which was a very hot engine . Removing the bonnet and then trying in second helped the engine temp issues immensely.

Then I spoke to Lex and asked for a bit of guidance so he told me to get in the passenger seat of my car as he got in the drivers seat and fucking nailed it round the EDC track, I loved every second of it and was nice to see what my cars capable of, even if I am nowhere near, I was instantly hooked and wish I had got involved all those years ago.

I managed to get some figure of 8's going in the larger playpen but there was some very worrying noises coming from the steering / suspension and then as I had the car jacked up at lunch to investigate noticed I had also split a brake line going to a rear caliper. So after 2ours of fucking about I managed to get the car into a position where I could drive it home (slowly) and then had a 6 and a half hour drive nursing the car home (was only a 3 hour drive in the morning).

Was a very long day and was absolutely gutted that the car broke and I couldnt get more practice done, but needless to say I loved every minute I was out there and cant wait to get the car fixed and get back out and give it a go again :D

Would like to say thanks to Lex for running the show and showing me the ropes, the guys with the BMW touring with exploded diff who lent me some tools to fix the brake line ( sorry I didnt catch your names) and the guys in the M3 who cooked me a burger on there BBQ

Cant wait for the next day and hope to meet some more of you guys :)

It's a slippery slope this drifting lark mate.

First drift day and now I'm hooked.
Tenth drift day and now I'm bankrupt.

Haha, yeah well aware of the slippery slope, I succumbed to that back in the day with a string of S13's and R32's. I "think" im slightly older and a bit wiser now though.... aaaand just booked for September :/

Pleased to hear you enjoyed the day and are coming back for more fun.

It was nice of the posh nissan owner to let us pass when we were on a flying lap

Sweet car mate perfect for learning and having cheap fun.

Yeah, a little gutted the August day is fully booked already, but booked up for September and theres an event near me to get some practice in over the next few weeks :)

Haha yeah, it was very courteous indeed, I think I will come and ask for some more guidance next time man.

Thanks, need to get it aligned and then apart from that the only money I need to spend on it will be just repairing it when i inevitably break it again.

I think most people on here experienced precisely what you did. My first drift day was in a little NA MR2 with an open diff, slipping clutch, no working handbrake and barely 150hp, but I loved every minute of it and just compensated for its shortcomings by throwing it into corners pretty fast. I left the track with such a high and just knew that I had to do this forever. Since then I've owned and drifted an S14 and an MX5. It just consumes you completely. I'm now at the point where I can barely justify owning a fast car that can't drift, so I'm put off buying cool FWD or 4WD cars that I used to want to own, purely because it makes more sense in my head to buy and FR and throw a welder in it. :P

Buh.. :/ Never a truer word spoken. The dudes I know who left the scene for a bit.. watched their bank balances rise.. and rise.. and go into the black, then rise some more. Its tempting sometimes...
