I want to fit my new exhaust manifold onto my car. The bolts appear to be really crusty. How should i go about opening them or should i leave the job to professionals?
Whenever I am undoing a rusty bolt I spray it with WD40 and leave it for a while, then hope for the best. Other options for rusty bolts are hammering on AF sockets (I've never tried it and I don't recomend it either), or I once saw a Super Wrench used to great effect on a rusty nut, or heat it with a blow torch for a while first.
Or you could pay a mechanic for the hassle of doing it. The mechanics method is a very well kept secret that I am about to reveal to you in the following steps:
1- Swear at it for a long time, work up a sweat whilst turning red and shouting about how crap the car is.
2- Get the apprentice to have a go while you go and have a cup of coffee.
3- Come back to it, tell the apprentice how useless he is and then undo it yourself magically.
