I am trying to decide an engine configuration for a drift build.

I don't know which configuration to go with, completely front mounted (i.e sitting over/ beyond the front wheels) or front-mid mounted (behind the front wheels, similar to an LFA set up)

The question is really which handles better when it comes to drifting.

Thanks

Installing an engine further back is always the aim with any FR build, it just more often than not means cutting into the firewall, making it much harder to work on the engine as you can't access spark plugs, injectors, take the head off etc. It will very likely result in the transmission tunnel also being cut. You will have to do a lot of custom work that didn't need to be, like intake and exhaust manifolds, depending on the engine might even mean removal of servo assisted braking. Bear in mind every drift series might not allow cutting firewalls.

And no offense, but if you had to ask this question I draw you are not exactly experienced car builder, so this may end up being too much for you.

My question is more about the handling than the build/fabrication. I know front-mid is better for grip applications, I can't seem to find anything on front-mid drifting and whether it's worth the extra work.

Then my answer is, you will be looking for near perfect balance.

But untill you have awholelotofofpower and are chasing grams, tenths of seconds and millimeters, you wont need to worry about installing your engine further back because there is so much other you can do before that.

Thanks for your help, I was considering front-mid if it was worth the hassle but I will probably stick to just front mounted for the moment.
Thanks again.
