Hi,

Im running a SR20DET with standard s15 5speed gearbox.

SR20 specs:
HEAD:
Supertech dual valve springs
TOMEI PROCAMS
Solid lifters
titanium Retainers
----
Supertech headgasket
Mazworkz Main and Headstuds
----
Bottom:
Manley rods
cp pistons
some special coated bearings

----
Mazwork chain tensioner
Lighter flywheel with arpstuds
etc...

Which turbo would you run on this setup? The gearbox is probably what will limit this show so would a:

GARETT GT2871R AR .64 be a good choice?

You've spent all that money on the engine and you're going to run an old donkey of 2871R?

Why?
Well, did it work before it will be good enough today. But i will now run GTX2867R instead, haven't made any decision regarding exhaust housing A/R yet. 0.64 or 0.72 or .8 something

Exhaust housing depends on your power requirements, and whether you're going V-band with external wastegate or staying with the T25.

Also the G25-550 is worth looking at, next generation along from the GTX series.

I run a g25 660 on a stock sr20 and it's a beast as is. On a built Sr I'd highly recommend checking them out. Pulsar g25 660 in .72 housing. Its rolling by 3.5k and pulls very well . Mine is a very tired low compression engine also lol

As with all these things, it very much depends on what you want to do with it and what sort of power you want to run. You've been smart and identified the gearbox as a limiting factor and it'll take some gentle care when pushing over 350hp / 350ftlb depending on the drivetrain/clutch setup you've got.

For an S15 car that's driven on the road, you're not really going to notice much real world difference between 380 and 450hp. Even with a built engine, 450 and above on an SR20 is just willy waving as you'll find reliability an issue if used hard in the real world. You'll also find issues laying the power down on the road. You will also probably not notice any real world benefit between a GT and GTX 2871R. It's an older design but at the end of the day, it just a pump that moves air. You might feel that the newer design of turbos spools a bit earlier/harder. Again, in the real world it makes very little practical difference if you're driving property.

On the SR20, i've always been a fan of the HKS spec GT2835R/GT3071R. It's a good turbo that gives a solid usable power band. If you're drag or straight line racing where you're looking for tenths, thats a different conversation. Although i'd suggest you're also on the wrong forum.

Cheers
