Handbrake+Clutch initation question

The question I have is simple, do you press the clutch every time you use the handbrake?

Now...let me elaborate a little- having read a few threads about clutch kicking I've started to question my drifting 'technique' (if you can even call it that) Using Lydden Hill as an example I personally I don't dip the clutch when using the hydro when entering Devils elbow even though the rear is locked up for some time. I obviously come off the power whilst the rear is locked then back on the loud pedal once released.

I'm certainly no mechanic I was thinking that surely pulling the hydro whilst still in gear locks the engine+drivetrain, which can't be good for it? So does not dipping the clutch do any mechanical harm? Which brings me back to my initial question, do you dip the clutch every time you use the hydro or just if locking up the rear for a relatively long time?

I know using a hydro to initiate a drift is massively frowned upon by some...It's that that got me thinking about the above. My aim is to try as many methods as possible in future and see what works for me.

You have drifted at lydden hill and are asking this question?

If you have been pulling the wand without dipping the clutch to initiate, then you must be stalling the motor every time you do so....then when you release, you effectively 'bump' start the car again.

So the answer is 'yes' then :) Every time you use the hydro you dip the clutch. Cheers dude, I'll obviously change what i've been doing

Yes. Almost without exception; yes. There are certain times when you'd use the handbrake without dipping the clutch but you don't pull it hard enough to lock the rears in this situation as that just kills the engine as said above and, from the sounds of it, you're no where near being in the position to need that technique yet.

For the purposes of what you're actually trying to do/ask about; clutch in, pon-de-wand, release wand, resume power.

Yes. Clutch should be fully in every time you use the handbrake/hydro. As you release handbrake you also release clutch and back on power. Short jabs of the handbrake, real quick on off kinda movements, dont hold it on for weeks and weeks.........
