Heat wrap

someone told me that heat wrap on a uprated manifold sometimes makes it crack is this wrong? before i order i want to make sure thats all.....:dw:

I think its a bit of a myth.
The thing thats going to crack the manifold is the turbo/exhaust hanging off it :wack:

Get some bracing & a flexi in there to help :)

Few ways, you can brace the manifold, between runners, from the flange to the runners etc, or you can make mounts from the block/turrets etc.

you CAN heatwrap the manifold, specifically the section that runs close to the inlet for the turbo, protecting the silicone pipe. other than that, its generally a bad idea. If you ever see somebody with and SR blipping the throttle as the pootle about, they are trying (in vain normally) so save the fanimould.

If you search for a turbo kit (3071R) that was sold by superclarkey, the pictures clearly show some decent bracketry! :)

Slightly off topic..Am I right in thinking a non-stainless mani would just rust and break very fast with heat wrap?

I was goin to do it because it get so fucking hot and burns everything around it so i thought that would be the answer....so your saying i shouldnt wrap it? :(

Ive wrapped manifolds with no issue, cast, mild steel, and stainless, wrapping with bracing too is wiser mind. As heat makes things softer, then it cracks without bracing.

My RX manifold is wrapped with DW heat wrap, and though only done about 1000 hard miles with it so far, it gets hotter than any SR will ever get.

Its swings and roundabouts, take your chances. But I walways do.

Hmm I wanted to wrap the mx5 mani as the intake is right over it and I can't relocate it without moving the afm.. And can't fit a cold air feed in. Was told not too as it would make the mild steel rust and break silly quick. But if its okay I may do it, just on the top of the mani...
