Hi guys, just found your site after having no joy in finding a local drifting club here in Surrey (please correct me!)

Been wanting to give it a try for a long time now, although having just sold a suitable jap car timing is crap.

Current steed is a fireblade Fisher Fury, not big torquey turbo power but its lively enough , 430kg - 140 bhp, RWD but no LSD at present. No problem making it go sideways but holding it is another matter. Want to give it a try so hopefully you guys could help me, anything coming up soon?? Been to North Weald a few times before. Any advice welcome, if i had the space/money an S14 or RWD skyline would be my choice, but at least I will be "different". Thanks. Lee

A Fisher Fury is a small car like a Caterham (a bit different, but on those lines). I would assume the fireblade part refers to the engine.

Being realistic its probably a nightmare to try and drift something like that but fair paly for giving it a go.

Im sure a google on Fisher Fury will show you some pics James ;)

Bloody hell!!! A website which actually has active members on drifting!!!!
One step closer.....

Thanks for the positive responses, much appreciated!!

In response to "what is a Fisher fury" yes, correct, in principal is is similar to a Caterham in principal, but looks nothing like one ( visit www.fishersportscars.co.uk, click on build site, select body type "spyder", and bonnet type "le mans", and the white car in full Martini Racing livery is mine, much nicer than a Caterham i hope. And a lot cheaper. I have driven that to Strasbourg, no windscreen, no doors, no roof......

I have had several suitable jap rockets, but alas, at the moment this is what i have, although the last i had was an ST205 gtFOUR which would probobly not been ideal.

I agree this may be a problem to drift, but the car is built to 750 motor club race regs, it is very stiff, light, RWD (no LSD yet) with lots of neg camber and adjustable suspension. Its got about 140 bhp, 300bhp per ton, but powerband is about 7-12000 rpm! so could be interesting! What i am plannimg to do is join up with you lot on a meet with a very open mind willing to take lots of advice, pump the back tyres up high and just see what it will do???? I wouldnt mind a ride with someone in their car to and mayble let one of you loons loose in mine to see what it can do/what it will need to be improved by somebody who knows how to do it.
Will look at suggested link to check out some dates.

Thanks again guys

Lee,

Well done for being different...

You're not too far from me and you're welcome to come down here to be shown round the South's premier drifting resort; I even found an ACTUAL private roundabout last night!!

Can't see there being any problem with the Fury drifting other than the open diff, but that's easily sorted avec le MIG.

I really can't understand why it could be seen as a potential nightmare... it's got plenty of revs to play with, it's mentally light and it's more powerful than my Corolla...

I reckon with a bit of getting used to it, that baby will drift like a bitch.

hello n welcome. your not far from me either(im not far from croydon!) n ur welcome 2 come along 2 a driftin day at arena essex talk 2nevil @www.driftmoto.com (that site is still under construction but there is some bits on there!)or contact him on 01474 850850 hes just about 2book a driftin day there!!!!

from flicking around in a caterham at bedford autodrome on the skidpan, I found once the back end loses traction, you need to catch it very quickly or you just spin. It certainly can be done though :) just takes patience.
Glad you like the site Lee  :D
Like you say, the best way to get going is to pop along to whatever is the next practice day near you. We're a friendly bunch and there will be plenty of people happy to talk your ears off ;) and take you out for a spin

Diff????

Thanks,

I live near Oxted, Surrey, anyone near me welcome to have a nose or let me know and I will come and an have a peek at yours (ooooh matron!)

Regarding diffs, I do a few trackdays and do drive it in Europe so the mig welder is a NO NO !!! I run an english axle which is from an RS2000 so diff options are Quaife or sailsbury, quaife is probobly better for generall use but a sailsbury which is what the rally drivers use is probobly better as it locks up fully, do not think the quaife is as aggressive. I know you all probobly run jap diffs but anyone got an opinion???

I don't know anything about a Salisbury but i do know the Quaifes aren't really suitable for drifting, much more just for track work. I'm only down here on the coast which isn't too far from your part of the world and would be well up for a sesh on Wils roundabout if hes offering.

Portsmouth is a fair way from Oxted. Its about an hour from here (Crawley) with little traffic and then Oxted is about another 20-30 mins or so away.

Oh i didn't realise it was that far, i always think of Surrey as being close because i commute there but i didn't realise it was so far across. Oh well, good luck with learning anyway, theres quite a few practice days down south so you should be fine.

meet

Cheers guys, will give Nev a call re: arena Essex, a mate of mine is the Circuit Champ there in his Audi TT hotrod, I know the place well. I will take the Fury over there and give it a go, we'll see what it does with the open diff?? Cant afford an LSD yet, spent my last toy money on a trackday at brands on nov 8th.

Whats the crack with rear tyres? Heard some places insist on "soft race type rubber pumped up hard" to combat tyre noise but Arena Essex is in the middle of nowhere. I have some 90% worn Avon ACB10's which are sticky as hell in the dry but pumped up hard will they be ok? Because my car is so light i run street tyres at 16psi, over 20psi the car bounces off the road and lays down huge lines whe i nail it. It has a 2.2 lock to lock steering rack so its got fast steering, I HAVE A FEELING I WILL NEED IT!!!

If the guys near Croydon and Crawley want to kick some tyres let me know, and Portsmouth not too far so will check out this roundabout. Bear in mind I have no weather gear so I have to don a crash helmet and wetsuit when it rains! Wouldnt mind a peek at some "PROPER" driftcars. Lee 07801 495568.

Hopefully will see lots of you at Arena Essex, thenks for the info
