Best way to get prices is to go to your local Toyota dealer and tell them which parts you need. If you have the part number then they should be able to get you the part and tell you the price.

I'm in the middle of making my car look like a Japanese import right now. The parts needed and prices will depend on how far you want to go with the conversion and whether your going kouki or zenki. As Oli says, go to club4ag as there's plenty of people on there that have done similar conversions.

If you only want it for drifting then it might be worth going drifting first and finding out what parts are needed for drifting. Its probably not worth doing a JDM conversion and then finding out that you have to spend another few thousand on decent suspension and stuff if it turns out that you like drifting.

Heya,

Welcome, indeed check out club4ag, lots of threads on the subject already and those guys know their stuff. you can also come say hello at www.aeu86.org, still gathering loads of info on the subject there.

I'm not sure what you mean by transforming a USA 86 into a jap 86, they are basically the same cars with minor differences.

For drifting I'd say suspention is what you need to focus on first if that hasn't already been looked at. After 20 years bushings are warn out so get some new bushings, very noticable difference in handling of the car (there is a group buy going on at aeu86 at the moment, about 100 euros for a full set)
Next up is shocks and springs. If its still stock on your car it wont cut it, 20 years of abuse again is alot and suspention on USA cars usually is even weaker then our europian cars. If you got money to spend, get the whole set from t3 (www.technotoytuning.com), they have a great adjustable setup for front and back but it costs $$$. Also make sure you get the camber plates and (NC)RCAs. They will make it possible to set your car up very well.

If you dont have the cash for the whole t3 set there are altenatives. Paradise racing (www.paradiseracing.com) sells an adjustable coilover set (sleave + springs, you can choose spring strength) for $150 ex shipping, they replace the front springs. You can also just go for lowering springs, adjustability is just a pre, not a must.
Shortening your struts is something that you should consider at this point aswell. If you do so, RCAs are a must. Camber plates are a must if you go this far aswell. Both are plusses in any case as you can set your car up better, but you can do without if you dont lower your car.

This is an excellent read on the subject: http://www.club4ag.com/faq and tech_pages/Short Stroke Conversion.htm

Make sure you buy some good shocks, they make a world of difference, remember that if you want to shorten the struts you'll need AE92 shocks! Adjustable shocks is a pre but there are very good nonadjustable ones out there for a good price.

If you dont go T3 you have a number of options for the rears. Atleast get better shocks, best to actually buy a set for front and rear. Cheapest solution is just to get shorter and stiffer rear springs that match your goal ride height leaving only the front adjustable. I haven't desided on what to do for the rear myself but will most likely go that route.

Anyways, absolute must is:
- stiffer springs all round (I'm at 6.5kg front and want about 4kg to 5kg rear, but most drifters swear by 8kg front and 6kg rear or stronger)
- new stiffer shocks all round (no idea by what it is measured by, I got koni yellow adjustables set to 50% at the moment)
- bushings all round
You can ready with this with a few hunderd euros, doesn't need to brake the bank.

Adjustable sets are a pre so are camber plates, once you obtain a certain level in drifting you will need them to go further but you can do without when still learning. But you are talking over a thousand euros before you are done doing all that (just the koni set alone that I got cost somewhere towards 500 euros if I am not mistaken, previous owner put them on mine so).

Tires are important, but since you'll be burning them up in an increasing rate, well just experiment with them I guess:) 2nd hand tires for the rears are nice and cheap and perfect for learning:)

The 4AG in an ae86 is more then fine when you are beginning, once you get better you may want something with a little more juice. Again check out club4ag technical section for information on this. You can get a couple of extra hps out of the 4AG with mild tuning by adding different cams and stuff like that. But if you want to increase it by alot you most likely will have to put another engine in. This can cost mucho $$$$.

From what I've read (but I'm just beginning myself) an ae86 with between 165 and 180 hp comming from a 4AG platform (supercharge/turbocharge, or one of the newer 20v's that is nicely tuned) will fill the needs for any serious drifter.

Anyways, thats what I've learned so far by reading alot and talking to other owners, can't garantee my views are accurate but I hope they can point you in the right direction. I'm learning still myself so:)

Hmm USA -> JAP, are we talking cosmetics here?

Dont need cosmetics for drifting (although USA trueno bumpers are heavy bastards, best to get rid of em);)

well it is me agan

Thanks for all your help :) those sites will come in handy for me and the USA --> Jap converson half of it will be cosmetics Because i love the Manga/anmie Initial D and I was going that way and send it to a few anmie con. in the few years and get so-so good and start being in a drift club so i will check out those sites

Thanks Alot
