Hi , how's everyone doing ? New guy here with looking to get drifting and improve by listening to your experienced voices ! So for a start ,

Bmw = RWD , check ! [emoji3]

4.4 V8 = fair torque , Check ! [emoji4]

Coilovers =cheap but , check ! [emoji23]

Diff = standard Open , NON check ! [emoji37]

Auto gearbox = Massive NON check ! [emoji37][emoji19][emoji37][emoji19]

Basically till 2 weeks ago been our family daily driver for the past 5 years , but wife now gone SUV club lol , even tought I've imposed a rule of has to have a fair petrol lump under bonnet it's still boring for me to drive a mini bus (ML500) so my old buddy E39 now it's free to fulfill my demands [emoji41] . Million pound question is , will it worth it being an AUTO? , manual box conversion experience anyone? , welded diff costs and a place where it can be done? I'm open to any suggestions as its all part of my research before I make my decisions and don't look back ! Btw, I'm not a drifter, but have a fair ammount of knowledge and experience with handling side of things when we give that bit more just under the edge, and I do think an E39 have a good overall balance , it's my open diff that lets me down sometimes [emoji57]. Thanks in advance for any input !

Welcome to the forum :)

Where are you located? This should help nearby members recommend decent places to get your diff welded!

With the Auto thing, certainly doesn't stop you from drifting!

But, a manual conversion is worthwhile. (I have no experience of it but it has certainly been done).

Cheers buddy ! Ermmm BMWs have something rather annoying on their AUTO boxes , of u reach the limitor on sequencial mode it will gear UP no matter what , Mercedes on other hand don't at least in the models I've owned. If I would place a limitor before the limitor would correct this?
