Hi guys, I've recently picked up a mazda mx5 that's been stood at work for 4 years, i only paid the grand sum of £70!!! I wanna do a bit of drifting but I've no idea where to start or how i get my car ready. It needs everything, new engine and such. So what engine is easy to put in the car? Or would it be better to just buy another mx5 engine? I don't want too much power, because ivs never drifted before, so what's best? And what else do I need to do to get it ready for drifting? Brakes, handbrake, tires and chasis wise?

Cheers, Jack!

Fit the exact engine that you take out. Anything else will be more hassle than it's worth!

Other than that when it's on the road, find some skinny tyres and/or a wet carpark that's abandoned
Having an open space that doesn't have obstacles is important when you start, so you can forget about everything else except holding the slide
On the road you will be worrying about hitting a brick wall and not about throttle control etc
An LSD will work plenty too. So check what diff you have before you decide to do anything drastic

Today^ my standard '96 mx5
(And yes, it's a private road)
Wet roads are your friend when you're beginning (and saves tyres)

What shite advice, do not use the road or "private road" / car park to practice in. Practicing on public highway is a twatish move and I can only hope the cars of people that do it get crushed and there slapped with a big fine.

If you want to practice get your self to a drift day, no one will laugh it you for trying and you will probably get some really useful advice from more experienced drivers.
