High Pitch Noise Problem

Can anyone help.

Just started using the FD this week after months of not using it if that makes a difference.

Anyway there is a really high pitch noise being made. Its quite soft. The thing is, this noise is still there when the keys are out and the ignition is off. Its a noise in the cockpit, cant hear it outside the car its not that loud (though its volume does seem to change from time to time when driving it, including going away too after a while).

Any help much appreciated before it kills my battery and im after jump starts in the snow!

Cheers
Lee

PMSL Bon Bon! lol! :D

Is your vehicle fitted with some sort of alarm/immobilizer?? Does the noise go when you disconnect the battery??

Ive had that same problem on a GT4! Does your alarm still operate correctly? From what i can remember the fault with the GT4 was the Alarm ECU, which had a buzzer in it, but was playing up and making a high pitch noise!!

The easiest way to find out what it is, is pull every fuse out individually (hoping that whatever is making the noise is fused) and wait for the noise to stop! Once youve found which fuse makes the noise stops, use a Wiring diagram to find out what that fuse feeds!

You might also want to find out if it is draining your battery! To find that out you will need a multi-meter! First disconnect the negative terminal of the battery, and put one of the the multi-meter probes on the terminal of the battery and the other on the negative lead! Turn the meter on to Amps! (in the 10amp range works well) and then it will come up with a reading! You should have no more than 0.03 amps! You usually have to give 30 seconds to allow the amp reading to settle!
Depending on the size of the amp drain usually gives you a hint on how big the unit is that is draining the battery! E.g. i think an interior light pulls 0.75 amps! (make sure when you do this, to have every thing in the car turned off and the keys out of the ignition and doors shut!)

Hope that makes sence!

hey lee, glad ya got the fd back.

the fan motor? have you tried turning off the fans?
the buzzer that the fd has?? just a guess that one
have you taken out the headunit? often the cd part makes a nasty noise.
disc changer?

fuse idea is good. it could be a window motor trying to push. but i would have though that it would stop when the keys are out.
fuel pump? they often make a whine/high pitched sound. if its on its way out then it could make more noise. plus they also tend to be intermittant at times too. but again. with the keys out it shouldnt make a sound.
central locking motors? does it stop if you lock yourself in the car?

they are all only idea's. but i hope they help you find it.

Just checked it at lunch and its not doing it now. But then it wasnt doing it at the start of my trip to work either.

Locking myself in doesnt stop it. No head unit since some bastard stole it last year.

Ill see if it comes back later and try to eliminate some options.
