How stiff are shocks ?

Hey,

i decided to keep my apex springs till next year. But my shocks will need replacing soon too. I found a place where they will rebuild and stiffen them cheap. The guy who does this told me he can make them as stiff as i want. Problem is i dont know how much stiffer should they be.

So, does anyone have some tech. data about KYB AGX, Koni yellow or some other shocks, good for drifting. I need numbers or at least how many % stiffer they are than std. shocks.

Youve got an S13 right?

Cant give you the ratings for a replacementshock but heres the standard Nissan figures...

Damping Force [at 0.3m (1ft)/sec] in N/kg/lb

Front

Expansion: 912-1245/ 93-127/ 205-280
Compression: 392-588/ 40-60/ 88-132

Rear

Expansion: 902/ 92/ 203
Compression: 539/ 55/ 121

means prety much feck all to me but it might mean something to your shock guy

I reckon a 50% minimum uprate would be OKish as the standard shocks are pretty soft.

Tnx very much. That will help, i think :) Just have to do some research now :)

50% sounds good. At first i wanted to do 40% front and 60% rear. But i realy cant imagine how stiff is 50% stiffer :)
