Hub section is solid on the strut. not far of destroying my locking rings trying to free it.. heat my only option?

People have had results leaving coilovers to soak in cola apparently. One guy even used battery acid.
You can add a bit of heat to the lower bracket, but you certainly don't want to get it too hot as it's a gas filled shock.

I dont think it would be a good idea to heat up a strut!!

Didn't someone mention soaking in coca cola for 24hours recently??

Edit:ah phil beat me to it!..i didn't mean 'that' recently!

I tried coke. It didnt work at all on the totally seized one.

Took it to garage d took them an hour in the vice with a blow torch and a c spaner on a breaker bar. I could never havr done it at home with the tools i had

soak it in parafin over night, secure it (maybe put it on the car) and a little bit of heat should do it

i managed to get a mates seized coilover undone with wd40 a screw driver/chisel and hammer :)

coilover spanner but there now locker together so i can turn the strut..

You need to drift them loose/tight, c-spanners are for adjustment only.
Lock 2 together in the middle of the damper and smash them round, that should free the damper in the bottom bracket.

that was what i done.
Had i locked in a vice with 2 guys hanging off a 2 meter bar and it wouldn't move.
2 hours in a tub of cola and i managed to free it of myself!

Cheers guys!!

I've got pissed off with seized 2nd hand coilovers before and got fed up with waiting for the penetrating fluid to soak in so there's a couple of options i used.

Seized rings = decent c spanner (tein/ forged are the best) use the handle of a 3 tonne trolley jack down the end of it and crack it off on the car. If like you say both collars are spinning use 2 spanners and 2 long bars with the help of another person /wedge it against inner wing . it's less damaging on the rings to do 1 constant motion than loads of little sharp taps too.

alternatively, you'll do well to order some new rings from driftworks, so if you feel angry yet delicate and have a sharp cold chisel to hand drive a groove into the aluminium collar at its thinnest part so it's just above going into the threads, then split the rest with a long screwdriver/ lever and splay it apart so you can wind it off without touching the threads

If the worst comes to the worst and your using s body coilovers you can always slit the brackets down with a dremmel /1mm cutting disc to just above the threads (so about 2mm deep) then put the 2 parrallel brackets which bolt on to the hub into the vice and tighten up, it should splay it enough to crack the rest of the cut and retrieve the damper body.

Thats worst case senario though and if the bottom bracket threads are completely solid.:smash: :dw: stock spares a plenty though so you made a good choice with buying supported coilovers

it doesnt work on properly seized stuff as the coke has no way in.

on my rears they almost came undone by hand. but not this one stubbourn fucker.

this was a 16 hour soak in real coke too.

i could get enough force on it to spin the entire shaft through 3 collars locked together. but the height adjuster just wouldnt budge.

took julian & walton about an hour to unseize. even after actually getting it moving, it still took a further 45mins.
