HSD Spring rate

Hi Guys,

I bought my HSD HR's about a year and a half ago, i let Bon decide what spring rate i would have as i didnt have a clue but now i cant remember what rate it was :wack: and i cant imagine Bon would remember unless he advises the same for all road cars.

My question is... is there any way of knowing what spring rate mine are? as i understand there is two options and if i do have the harder spring, is it possible to buy the softer spring?

Or would winding off some preload make it a bit softer?

Cheers, Loz!

They'll be 8/6 if it was a year and a half ago.... the old slightly stiffer default rates. If you wanna go down to 6/4 that's easiest then you just need a pair of 4kg springs.

As for preload, you shouldn't be running any preload at all, by running preload all you'll really do is restrict suspension travel and make it a lot more prone to run out of travel over humps and bumps and get bouncy. So yeah, wind it so there's no preload. In fact, I'd personally run it with the front springs juuuust captive and the rear with 20mm of slack.

Should ride pretty nice then. :) And if not, get some softer springs.

Cheers Bon, i dont think im running any preload, i set that ages ago and havent touched it since. I did it so it just held the spring in place, i might try winding some off and seeing what its like.

I'm getting old and the bumps and knocks are starting to piss me off :D

You'll have to excuse me for being a bit dumb but when you say 20mm slack, what do you mean? whats that measurement of?

Hold the spring against the top seat, wind the bottom seat 20mm away from the bottom of the spring, so you have a 20mm gap.

:worthy: feels totally awesome now! thanks so much for the advice, the shock adjustment has more of an affect than before now and the ride feels brill.
:D
