Hi all very new to this site so not to sure where to post this question but hopefully someone will have an answer on here for me
Resent bought a 1998 e36 323 coupe which I'd like to build a road legal drift car out of it and I want to fit a hydro handbrake in it but have heard they are not road legal however my mot is not due till next year 2018 so if anyone has any info on this that would help me on the legality of hydros and how to fit them to my e36 so it won't interfere with my abs system or anything else any info on these subjects would be greatly appreciated many thanks in advance

OK thanks would you know how I would plum the hydro in without it effecting my abs system or other parts to do with breaks

fitted correctly it won't disturb ABS , but you would wanna disable the ABS when drifting anyway

basically run the hydro in the rear brake lines from the abs unit to the rear axle , depending on if its a 2 line system or a single line system , you'd need to run a couple of t pieces for 2 line systems.

OK thanks I'm assuming I would take the hydro line in from the brake reservoir nipple that you would use if your manual swapping you car for the clutch line then line out to the back callipers via the brake lines

Hydro can be fitted directly to rear brakes from the middle of the car. Usually one rear brake line goes to the rear, you connect it into the cabin, into the cylinder. Then from there, you connect to the remainder of the rear brake line which eventually splits to left and right. The valve in the cylinder will block the fliud going forward, only stopping rear wheels. Under normal braking the fluid goes the original route, only taking a turn through in-car cylinder.

Another way is a separate pair of calipers just for hydro, then you use a secondary fluid reservoir to feed just the 2 calipers fitted to you hydro cylinder.

Any way it is a DIY job you can do for a sane amount of money. Like said above, you will probably disable ABS for drifting, so while at it you can throw it out all together and replace lines with a hydro in mind. I suggest using hard lines over teflon because of price, plus if you don't manage to have them beautiful and straight no one can see it underneath the car.

Not from UK so speakong with unceartainty, but as far as I understand it will be legal as long as you retain the standard, cable handbrake assembly.

OK I suppose I would just have to do it and find out when mot is due thanks to everyone who has replied so far and to those who may yet replie
