Hi everyone. Been a big fan of the drift scene for a long time now and lately I have been craving to start doing it myself.

Basically I don't have alot of "spare" money so I am looking for advice about a budget drift car.

I would preferably need it to be road legal as I don't have a trailer or anything to pull a trailer so thats one thing i need to consider.

mainly i have been thinking e36/46 or an mx5, simply because they are cheaper than most other RWD's at the moment but I am undecided and wonder if anyone knows of anything cheaper?

I have a million more questions to ask but Im sure they can come up as and when.

cheers

Because both of you haven't used the search button

This EXACT question gets posted every week

Don't think you're in a special position, there are thousands of others that have been or are in the same position

Nobody thinks they're special, I used the search button and dint find anything, as you can see I'm a new member. So maybe instead of being condescending you could post some links to these existing threads. Thanks for the warm welcome.

You're right there's a ton of newbie threads, but in all the ones I saw it seemed as though they had already chosen their vehicle, or are trying to find sources for parts. I'm stil in the conceptual stage, all I know is I need rwd. Tbh I'm already kind of frustrated cause I have a friend who drifts but he's sort of arrogant and often just ignores questions I have about it. Must be common in the drift world if ben's response is any indication.

I've been nothing but helpful to new members on here for years, go ahead and search my posts

Patience runs out at a point

whatever dude. First impressions last a lifetime, from now on any time I see your name I'm going to to think, hey that's that asshole who was condescending to me the first day I joined this forum. You didn't have to respond, you could've just let nature run its course, but instead you chose to respond, but not only that you chose to be an asshole. Don't try to make your decisions someone else's fault.

Lol welcome to dirftworks. You should be able to find most things you want to know on here or even using google, drifting has been around for a bit now so there is plenty of info around.

You want to know what options are available to you for a cheap daily drifter and couldn't find anything where they hadn't chosen their vehicle already?

I found all of these in the space of 15mins by using keywords like "budget" "new" "first" "daily", searching specifically in the Drifting Chat and Project Build Threads areas

If I can find all of that in 15 minutes I'm saying you didn't even try for more than 5

I couldn't care less what you think of me, but if the above post helps others realise the power of searching this site properly then it's a win

BenRice has been THE ONE helping me all along. I know I asked him a lot of questions without searching first, but I promise you, you can profit from talking to him (or anyone who know their shit regarding anything) if you "do your homework" first.

Given the first 2 posts were from UK and USA I wouldn't dare tell you specifically what to select. I can tell you what to aim for though.

I bought an S13. Wanted a turbo car, wanted an older car, wanted a good looking car. GREAT first drift car. Great learning experience. Old POS, you will spend most time troubleshooting. Part of the appeal for me. Parts are cheap. Endless modifications are good.

Would I buy it again knowing all I know now? Probably not. Car is too needy, takes away from the road/seat time.

I would buy something with decent power, nimble, very common, tested and modern.
BMW E36 compact gets you drfting for 500eur here.
RX8 is very cheap here, japanese, modern, good looking, doesn't need much modification.
350Z is getting more and more expensive but would be the best car all around if you can afford it.
