Idea for Practice Session at Silverstone.

Hi Guys,

Nice to be finally pointed somewhere that's just Dori!

Okay, got talking to a few at Conedodgers today (great day btw, and thanks for Matt, Rob and Declan for showing me how to drift my MX5!) about D1 and the diabolical Practice session that we get in the morning... 30 mins wait for 2mins on track etc....

Rather than have 40 cars cueing up in one go, would it not be better to have the current practice session being split up into smaller sections. For example, 9am-10am, would be cars 1-10, 10-11am cars 11-20 etc.

This would benefit people practicing, as there would be a minimal time cueing to go out again, so the car is warm, the mind is fresh from working out the mistakes and you can put your theory into practice near straight away.

This will also benefit the people who are not in the practice slot, as they can now work on the car or even, god forbid, to be a competitor and actually see some other drivers in action!

If you guys think this is a good idea, then we should as a group forward this to Manish/Kiki/Option and see what they have to say.

At the end of the day, without us, they don't have a D1 Championship right!?

What happens if one person in a session drops it and you lose half the time?

Im also not keen on going out from 9-10, and then doing nothing untill the comp at 2.

Its not a bad idea though, its pretty similar to one I suggested somewhere else recently.

How about splitting it into 3 groups for 9-10, 10-11 and 11-12, and then normal wait for ever to get another run or two from 12-1?

It would be mega boring for the time off track, and everyone would think what poor value it is for the money. Also, long as the queueing is, it's quite sociable, and probably better to find a way to make it flow more freely.

I'm sure if we went off at shorter intervals, it wouldn't be a problem, as I think it would be fairly obvious if the car in front of you had spun.

Either that, or have a limit to the number of competitors, though they need as many as possible to pull the money in, and the price would probably go up

It should be run in groups of experience, in 20 minute slots 10 on track at a time, but it should also be run like a track day, with continuous driving, and people keeping their distance..

Good input guys, keep it coming. Really want to know what you guys think about this.

As to socialising in the queue.... Waiting for like 40 mins to get another run at Rnd3 was not fun, with all the heat and fumes from the exhausts. Whats if its pouring with rain, no one is going to get out of their cars to chat.

If you want the practice to stay one large 3 hour session, then why not have the queue somewhere else, like along the pit lane, so we can watch the action whilst waiting.

With 40 cars on practice, its a long boring wait..... So how about having everyone file back into the pit lane, and get redirected to the current queue under the bridge in 10 car groups?

This way you can have your single large session but also let us do some spectating!

Phil- I was going to mention your view and this is the only 'real' answer to the problems we have with practice session, but you and I know that this is never going to happen at Silverstone, or even conedodgers!

This is how it works in Japan, I've seen it and I've done it (albeit badly, with everyone drifting pass me!), and it works fine.

I think this is the best idea, especially the groups of experience thing. I know when i was at Silverstone i didn't want to push too hard as i was worried i'd spin and waste other peoples track time.

been thinking why can't we have silverstone to ourselves for a practise, been thinking where the f..k do we get the £

then thought about a proper drift club, one that holds events earns £ ,then re-invests in hiring bigger and better venues, making money from "drift days" could eliminate "sponsors"

The problem is that without sponsors the cost goes directly to the participants and spectators which means it becomes more expensive for us. Sponsors that are willing to part with cash to pay for a track in return for advertising rather that supply prizes is the way to go.

Dunno how else a drift club would make money.
