Initiating drifty fun (noob question)

I know this will have been covered 10000000000 times before, but I can't find anything when I search.....

What's the best way to get my car sliding? I've got a standard 1.6 115bhp Eunos and I've gotten used to doing it by dipping the clutch, revving hard and dumping the clutch - it works well, but it seems to have cooked the clutch.

I'll be fitting a new clutch soon, so I don't want to eat that quickly. Maybe need to practice the scandi-flick?

Cheers.

Honestly, with an MX5, the only way you'll see much progression is with speed (imo). Basically, if you've not got much power you'll just need to go faster. Once you've got speed up, momentum will have more effect so you can flick it around easier. Speed and a decent flick into the corner should do it.

You shouldnt hold the clutch down, rev up and release. You should clutch kick, go in fast keep your foot on the accelerator and stamp on the clutch, at the same time flick the steering and off you go.

Thanks. So is clutch kick a bit easier on my drivetrain? I've just found it really easy the other way

You need to work on your flicks. However I use clutch kicks most of the time and yes, it kills clutches (I just swapped mine out last month) for an Exedy. As its mental good and lasted really well.

Dont worry about shit breaking until it breaks.. if you worry, there's no space for learning.

If you got a good handbrake use that as it's a lot easier and cheaper to change pads than a clutch :)

....and will sap all the speed you vitally need to maintain in a low powered car. Terrible suggestion. Take advice from people above who all have experience.

After drifting my friends MX you do need to just hit the speed and be 100% committed. I had no handbrake or anything like that and to be honest not needed.

Dont hand brake it. As said above kills to much speed.
You really need to move the weight of the about and unsettle the car.
Tyre pressure is important.
Im running 50psi in my mx now. But to start with I was doing 70+ psi an that helps

Practice in the wet, less harsh on the car. You can entree much slower, practice left foot braking when you get bored with that...big track lots of speed..don't crash.
