Ok so here goes, never really undertaken anything hugely mechanical apart from discs and pads change etc..
anyway while changing the clutch i found a few issues and hopefully from writing this another newbie wont have the same issues oh and i pretty much did this by myself
this is probably all very much ammateur talk to everyone on here, but i had never done this before and was qouted 500 pounds for the clutch change so for first timers that want to save a bit of money and dont mind getting their hands dirty this may be useful
took a day and a half for me because i spend so long trying to get the prop and exhaust off which i didnt even do in the end.. then i didnt realise the clutch plate had to be lined up for the gearbox to go back together with the bell house..
right so firstly credit goes to steve on the lexus forum for giving me tips when i got stuck..
Clutch kit:
car off floor obviously:
I firstly the plastic covers then started tryed to remove the exhaust and prop however i managed to do it without removing either of them, though i did take the exhaust off its rubber clips to allow for dropping the gearbox alot easier, would have taken off the whole thing but bolts are pretty stuck on, so proved more hastle

however there are two bolts in the center of the prop holding it to the chasis.. removed these as they allow play with the prop to move back and forth allowing the gearbox to move back towards the rear of the car, from here i placed a jack at the rear of the gearbox and removed the four bolts that hold the gearbox to the chasis (its mounted on a plate that has some rubber mounts to prevent vibration to the chasis i think) however the exhaust not needed to be removed it still needs to be detatched from the gearbox, (two bolts seen below)
thennnn lower the gearbox as much as possible while playing with the prop (lowering and moving to the side of car at swivel point near where the bolts removed earlier) to allow for the gearbox to drop fairly freely
keep an eye that the prop doesnt come out the gearbox as the gearbox oil will come out (no big loss as can be re-filled but will save you money and hastle of replacing it)
when you have the gearbox as low as possible there are four bolts on bottom of bell housing remove these (think their 14mm) there are two more bolts holding the solanoid in place (14mm) remove these.. pretty sure i used a swivel extension bar as its pretty tight to get too but first time i did this i used an extension bar and abit of flattened copper pipe attatched to the end of the ratchet..
there are 3 more larger 17mm head size bolts on top of the bell housing, best attacking these from the side of the solanoid using two or three extension bars and a swivel joint (feel for them first and the furthest one round is abit of a pain to get too
on the other side (opposed to solanoid side, there is another 17mm bolt
oh and there is one more 17mm bolt near where the clutch mechanism is that goes into the clutch, not sure how to explain it..
from there it should be free i think, so i used a large flat blade and prysed free the gearbox from the bell house, once again play with the prop to allow movement of the gearbox, slowly let the gear box down..
and thennn.. clutch change time, 8x 12mm bolts hold the clutch plate houseing in place, remove these and pryse the housing free, the clutch plate should come loose at the same time..
change the clutch and either line the clutch plate up in the centre of the houseing by eye or use a manrel tool (£8 euro car parts)
old clutch:
if their not inline youl really struggle to get the gearbox to connect with the bell house again, also if your finding it hard to get the bell house to re-connect with the gearbox you need to ensure its all in line (the gap between the top of the gearbox and bellhouse is the same as the gap between the bottom of it.. and ditto with the sides..
then everything ive written above repeat but in reverse
think thats everything, i used two jacks one at the front of gearbox and one at rear when re allingning as this made the whole process easier
Good luck, probably missed out something here and there but hope it helps
