Hi all  , since Xmas I have managed to loosen my turbo & blow gasket :( , kill the clutch slave cylinder & get the bottom end bearings rattlin in my S13  . I have taken the sump & bearings out & it looks like the bearings have been changed once without the crank being ground(very uneven bearing wear). So I have decided, out it comes!!

My question to all you guys in the know: what can I do to my engine (without re mortgaging my house) to make it more fun? Also what kind of bhp will I get from any up-rated changes?

look forward to hearing from you all

Step one - Remove CA18
Step two - Install sr20

Job done

Or if you want to keep the ca then i would have thought some uprated big end bearings and a metal head gasket would be pretty cheap. Best bet is to ask Steve Carter.

which i had teh cash to do this :D

disagree.

keep the ca18det and spend bit of cash uprating the bottom end.

i love my ca and wouldnt get rid of it even if i did have an sr20det laying around

i have heard a lot of people say that to that they prefer the CA, but having driven a stock CA and stock SR i prefer the SR. Also its more reliable.

But as i dont have the cash a CA it is...

sorry for high jack! :smash:

sr is prob more reliable but newer engine and they have generally been less thrashed than the ca.
never really had huge experience with sr20dets, been in a few 14s but i must say i do prefer the reability of the ca.

Lightening and balacing the bottom end is a good idea and cheap too.
A set of forgies has to be on the cards whilst you have it in bits... Also helps lessen the risks of high rev damage :)
New oil pump and water pump, new bearings obviously.
