To all of U who have lived/been to Japan, whats it like going there for a JAP car/drift/midnight racing car nut like myself. I mean in terms of a holiday were U could experience all that I love about the jap car culture. Is it possible? I was told recently by a friend that he went and saw no modified cars by day, and everything happened by night and well out the way.

Andy,

i went to Japan earlier this year. We did see modded cars day and night, although there were more at night.

Also for street drifting the best thing to do is to go to Hakone (south of tokyo) as Matt was telling me on sunday.

Any friday or saturday night will see plenty of racing around the C1 ring road in Tokyo, or the run down the Wangan B to Yokohama and the Daikoku Futo rest stop. Awesome atuff !!

Cheers

Si

Me and the missus are planning to go next year. I'm gonna start saving now so I've got loads of wedge. Want to pack as much of Japan in as possible, including as much of there Culture as possible.
By night I want to see as much of there car culture as possible. I hear the Daikoku Futo rest stop is legendary.

No-one else got comments on this

I'd love to go to Japan for a look at some of the stuff they get up to but, if I'm honest, it kind of intimidates me the thought of going half way around the world to a place where I speak non of the language and I'd probably be on my own cause none of my mates would be into that sort of shit. What's it like once you're there, is it hard to navigate, be understood, where do you stay?? I'd really like this to be my next holiday so it would be nice to find out a bit.

I've been a few times now :) .. can't really comment on what it would be like as a holiday as each time we've been filming so have purposely set out to go and see the tuners/racing/street stuff etc .. i've always stayed with friends out there so haven't had to worry about getting round but without the backup of local knowledge i can see it being a nightmare. I know how to get to a few places but given that the streets don't have names as such it can be rather difficult to navigate if you are on your own. We got continually lost the last time we where there .. and i mean LOST !! .. and that was just taking a wrong turning off the C1 !!!

Also given Tokyo's rather huge size you have to bear in mind that all these tuners n stuff are bleedin miles from each other .. tyin to understand a japanese map/sat nav is not the easiest thing in the world. Culturally speaking it couldn't be further away from western culture if it tried !!! ..

Having said all that I have never been to a country that has had such an impact on me .. not just because of the cars etc .. it is truly beautiful, the people are amazing, the food is .. well .. mmm .. different but as i say it is an amazing place .. if it weren't for the fact that i have a young family i would move out there .. without hesitation.

Agree here Brooksie  .

Have been to Tokyo a few times now but also been lucky enough to take in the scene around Nagoya and Kobe which is just as big and as much fun. Sometimes people forget that other areas of Japan have a massive car scene.

Hope to be going back very shortly AND I CAN'T WAIT   .

My nexy years holiday is already booked to Nagoya, and i can't wait, i hope they make cheese sandwiches out there or i'll starve!!! :D

Been there on hols the last two times and it really is the most awsome place to visit! Cars/Food/Gals/Games are all the finest!!

Hoping to go out January and visit the Tokyo Auto Salon aswell as seeing some drift action.

As far as getting around goes it's not too bad as they list most of the stations in English (within Tokyo anyway), although driving is a different matter I'm sure!

Always take a large suitcase with you and lots of disposable clothes - that way you can chuck em' and use it to bring back all your goodies! ;)

Is it expensive out there?

Is it possible to get normal food out there like chips and sausages, and toasted cheese sandwiches or is it all mad exotic stuff?

si would love to go but there is just no way we could afford it having just moved in january and having two small children...... not to mention writing our 14 of in april and then buying a 14a.......

Class :D .

Tokyo provides you with every delight you could wish for  . As do some of the other larger citys but to a lesser degree sometimes.

You won't go hungry ;) .

the bigger cities are pretty europeanized; english speaking in most places, loads of choice on food and drink, etc., etc... better to use public transport than drive IMHO, until you know your way around a bit

Stay in the bay area at night and you will see loads of car-action... ...you will enjoy it over there  :D

Hi guys, Just got back from Cyprus, itself having a mad jap car scene  Anyways, thanks for all the replys and info. Wor lass is searching for prices at the mo. It seems flying from Newcastle is gonna cost about a grand more then flying from London!!!!!
