Just bought 523i and got it drift ready, advice?

Yesterday bought a BMW 523. 2.5 X reg, with an immaculate engine. Got a 2.8 engine with it for when i blow this one.

I have completely ripped out the interior and tidied up all the wires now, today I have welded the diff. Also removed the ABS fuse for perminent traction control off.

Its around 170 bhp, so not too powerful, but it goes sideways ok, Hydraulic handbrake is on the way this week...

My questions are...

Can I decat this engine without affecting the running of the car due to altered backpressure?

Can I remove the massive middle section and rear section of the exhaust?

The throttle response of the car is a little slow, any advise on how i can make this better?

Can you get coilovers for this car? and would it be needed to improve drift potential?

Is it worth cutting out the rear bulkhead where the rear seats should mount?, much weight reduction?

You can but it will use a bit more fuel.

You can , but it will be slower and sound like shite (losing a bunch of midrange punch) , Stock is best for power. I'd advise not to bother.

BW chiptune are good for generic remaps to pep it up a bit , Used them on my 540i and was impressed. That was fly by wire

Stiffer suspension is always better , Driftworks do E39 coilovers , as do many other people , I've had the DW monopro on 4 of my vehicles and recommend.

Not really , just makes it smokier in the cab

They are great cars , but a little bit lardy.

You dont need to remove the fuse , just unplug the ABS unit under the bonnet .

You won't blow the engine , they are rock solid.

Lockstops chopped off is a free modification for lock , chop a little bit off at a time and watch the tyres for rubbing inner arch.

Make sure your cooling system is A1 , get a bucket seat and bin the stock ones they are HEAVY.

Thanks for the advise, ill act on it... Cooling and engine in general is perfect... need half buckets or something because my friend who is in the project with me is over 20 stone and wont fit in one, and i know, i reakised how heavy the seats are when removing my carpets...

So the 170 bhp motor is enough?
