Okay so, Teesside. Having done the prep of keeping all fluids from trying to Brexit, I removed 5mm of spacers from the front. If the car was weighted and steering it would catch, I really didn't want to go destroying front tyres 350 miles from home.
Loss of fitment was inevitable but fuck it noone will tell when I'm on drift.
So I ended up loading as strategically as possible since the car is lower than it was at the first SR test day. (The 16" emergency get home wheel was moved forward and tyre moved into its position.)
How I didn't absolutely burst my arches from all the massive bumps I have no idea.
Made it to my Girlfriends in Aberdeen for the weekend as we had a wedding.
Done the trek down on the Sunday after the wedding, surprisingly not rough and stayed in a Travel lodge and then head out early doors on Monday.
Crew was fucking decent, loads of people I hadn't seen since STL last year so was good catching up.
So on track, went out with the mindset of "Flick initiation at the start of the apex on the right" after watching peoples on board. Having not driven since December nor being particularly good at flick entries (only done it in the wet.) It was inevitable I was all over the place. There was a couple times where I would just get shot forward in a straight line and would jab the handbrake to get back on drift (Bad habit I have, understeer-handbrake). 2-3 runs of this I clock on its because I'm not giving it 100% commitment and being slightly hesitant. Flicks sorted, next problem, bogging down halfway round the big corner in 3rd and giving it hefty kicks to keep it going. Problem, 30psi in NS tyre, 40 in OS. Haha.
After I sorted out tyre pressures Car was absolutely faultless, well apart from my fucking V band coming loose for the 100th time but thats hardly a problem.
(don't miss the 5mm spacer here...)
So yeah, I had the door bar in but wasn't feeling 100% confident about driving with someone. Dan threw out two fingers in front in the queue and I just thought fuck it. I'm so glad I did, my "I'm not confident to drive with anyone today" was straight out the window and we were going for session after session just arsing about trying to get closer and closer. Most fun I've had in a long time.
So yeah amazing day driving, pack up and then have to deal with the 6 hour journey home. Roads up north were cracking, Satnav even took me up some dead country road instead of the A1 which since it wasn't busy i could sit steadily at 60. Edinburgh had some shitty roadworks that knocked me back 30 minutes. 30 minutes I had made up on that back road so it was all good.
Perth.
Fuckin heater hose again. Same position at the back of the block for the heater matrix. I was able to cut the hose that had the hole and then squeeze it all back together. Top up with some water and limp home. Left Teesside at 6. Home at 2am. Trek.
