Keeve's Lowstyle S13

Cheers Ben! Uploaded the footage from the SR test day to Youtube. - worth pointing out I was only really fucking about focussing on entries and transitions hence the clips where I just stop trying.

Right i'm back in London so worth updating.

Had a last minute decision to do NYE at Driftland. Went to get fuel and brakeline burst. Looking at where it must have been something I did by accident when I was replacing fuel lines.

So NYE was spent like this:

Instead of this:

Done a new brake line front to rear then from the T out to the flexi's. Since getting one last day in before coming back was ruined I decided to just get it sitting like how I want before taking it down to England (when I find storage.)

HSD's nailed with plusgas a hammer and drive, got the majority of them freed. Apart from the Lower mounting bracket.

Went to Facebook for reccomendations for the situation, from a coke soak, Diesel soak, Stilsons and vice (queue broken worktop). I had to give up and get the blowtorch, plusgas and hammer.

Ruined the lower bracket and last inch of threads but got the bastard moving! Managed to save the lower bracket for a test drive (don't trust driving on it with how bent it was.) - All fitted and changed up the rear height.

Overall a bit disappointed with how the front sat with a 25mm shorter spring and removed collar. I've got more ideas on how to fix it and get the perfect ride height but that will have to wait. Before anyone says I don't want Geo's.

Two problems encountered though. It handled like dogshit. I mean the rear was bouncing about from the slightest bump. So I raised it 15mm on the coilover to counter this and now feels perfect again - Will probably drop it 5mm and 5mm again until it handles like dick.

Exhaust. Fucking Exhaust as usual. Well it was dragging pretty much constantly but having spoken to a couple people I realised two things, One I can just hammer the absolute fuck out of it to make it clear like i did with my downpipe and two, I hadn't raised my subframe yet. Higher subframe = higher exhaust at that section. Ideal.

Fired out a subframe raise and i have no idea why I put it off for so long, was a piece of piss.

So now with the exhaust a wee bit tucked (still smashing the centre box so going to have to go straight pipe) and raised slightly its driveable at this height and I am happy.

Hopefully next time I'm up I can do the fine tuning and get it down that bit more to tuck rim static again and have the front similar to how the rear sits now.

Damn need todo me a subframe raise, exhaust scrapes but need to go lower!

Whats involved in a subframe raise?
Just wazzing a little spacer in underneath i take it?
Never thought about that before but looks like it could benefeit me greatly...

Anyway love the car dude.

Couple ways to do it, you can get subframe raisers or i've heard folk just remove the top solid mount but to me it felt a bit dodge having a hollow subframe on the chassis so put in a washer from some DW poly's i had kicking about.

No update apart from 4 photos I had developed from a roll of film from my new camera.

Hopefully should have some interesting subtle changes coming soon apart from yer generic "oh i've got a pish kit" updates.

May as well do an update to this whilst i'm here checking out the new forum.

After the subframe raise the camber was obviously dialled out, but it was a bit tooo dialed out and scrubbed the inner arches and burst my filler.

Since the exhausts been smashing fuck out of everything still i done another couple adjustments to the exhaust and got it tucked up to fuck to the point it doesn't catch on anything now.

Finally fitted extended front studs and managed to get 15mm spacers on the front with a bit more camber.

Finally happy with the front ride height, might take it down a slight bit more if i take out the last adjuster but want to see how long my lip lasts for like this first.

Since its sitting lower and my driveway is fucking diabolical a side skirt took the easy way out and got fucked up.

Leftover tint from the rear windows n shit so with nothing else to do...

Pro: It looks fucking G. Con: I can't see shit at night.

Coupled with this happening I've decided to remove them.

Finally got a T25g sorted for the SR. Pulled it out of the box I got it from my mate in to see this.

Thought fuck it if its only leaking oil it might be sound. - Fitted it and theres no smoke on idle? Could it be something the previous owner did removing or something? theres no play in shaft which is all i was really worried about.

Dan Prior of Destroy fame braced up a Japspeed manifold for me.

Took about 5 attempts to fit right with having to clock the turbo about 4 times haha. Sounds fuckin mad good with the manifold. So decent but the cars only boosting to about 12psi then dropping to 4psi. Culprit has been located.

Ordered a new Nissan gasket from Latvia and just waiting for that to come before i can get the turbo set up properly.

When i'm replacing gasket going to take a look at that oil on the turbo outlet again, unsure if i should be worried or not.

Well I'm back home for a bit as I've booked onto Teeside on the 17th.

Jumped onto the gasket straight away into the shed my old boy modified so I can get the front in.

Fucked. Why anything still buys shit like this from eBay is beyond me.

Also since going SR/T25G my intake has been stock S13 plastic so got a silicone elbow and a bit of pipe to make a dodgy metal intake for louder turbo noises.

IMG_6700.jpg

Since doing the subframe raise I was still scrubbing on one side so took off the camber arm, unsiezed it as best i can and then jacked the wheel up to compression to make sure that it wasn't going to foul this time round.

IMG_6711.jpg

Got a JDM plate tilt and some LED lights just to clean up the plate area a bit.

IMG_6718.jpg

Now at this point I was pulling my hair out because the turbo would spool to about 12/13psi then drop right down to 6/7. Turns out when I was troubleshooting the boost spiking issue before I misread the Greddy instructions and put the COM port to the compressed side. Instead of the actuator. Cause that naming makes sense... - If anyone knows what NO and COM stands for i'd be interested to know.

So reached a point where all mechanical work was "done" it got a long overdue wash.

IMG_6739.jpg

Added in the door bar that I got from the Cusco so that I can run trains at Teeside if anyone else is going thats caged.

IMG_6744.jpg

Now that it's mechanically sound I could focus on looks. My splitter has been a pain in the cunt recently due to it not being fitted properly and not having the metal underneath.
My Plan was to tigerseal it and fire in about 10 M8 bolts. I ended up putting in 5 M8 bolts and when i was lining it up I put in 5 self tappers. Since the whole bumper was off the car I also got a bit of pole from the fucked gazebo, 3 of the biggest cable ties I could find and the splitter is now fitted flat! No Droop, and doesn't smash the whole way up/down my drive. So I might be able to hold onto it.

IMG_6770.jpg

IMG_6768.jpg

Final piece of bodywork before teeside was sorting the skirt I drove over. Fucknose how but I only managed to crack it underneath, and everything looks good so I just blasted it with some sandpaper until it was relatively flat. Borrowed a paint gun from a mate and got to painting it.

IMG_6786.jpg

At this point I regretted not primering the skirt or doing the prep properly but fuck it I'd have smashed it if i spent longer prepping.

IMG_6787.jpg

Turned out sound anyway. Wee bit wavy but its not a showcar.

IMG_6789.jpg

Now everything's all pretty much ready for Teeside on the 17th. Looking forward to driving a new track and hopefully push my driving even though I've been out for a few months.

Okay so with Teeside around the corner I'll update this to "as is".

With everything sorted, I was dailying the car again as i was home in Scotland. Driving a car like this in the north of Scotland was fair getting some attention with people staring at me. Not really a fan of the attention it gets but its how I want it to look so fuck it.

IMG_6798%202.jpg

Managed to get my Kouki rear spats fitted again, with the help of welding on a new bracket on the NS after i smashed it all off on the first drift day back on page 1 or some shit.

IMG_6866.jpg

When I did my manifold I forgot to check the exhaust outlet to be shout it was sound, so I popped off the exhaust and stuck my phone in to see the "oil" was gone. One of my mates later said this is Fuel jelly or some shit? Fucknose I'm just happy its sound.
IMG_6805%202.png

At this point my most recent batch of stickers for Insurgent came through. Shameless plug.
IMG_6825.jpg

With the car sound one of my mates wanted to take photos of it so we went for a small drive with the car and done some lifestyler pictures.

After I got home from this I noticed a drop of oil on the ARB. Thought it was odd. So cleaned it up then took it on another drive to be sure it was a light weep. It was not.

IMG_6875%202.jpg

Since I only had 2 days to get the car ready and nothing arrives in time in Scotland I thought i was fucked. Then Nissan managed to get one for me next day for £7.40. Belter.

IMG_6916.jpg

Old one was mince.
IMG_6902.jpg

So yeah, The cars all ready. I've driven through to Aberdeen for the weekend with it packed ready for Teesside on Monday. Car was going well apart from being far too low from all the weight and just didn't have any oomph with the amount of shit in it haha.
IMG_6932.jpg

Really looking forward to driving with the lads. Hopefully have some footage next week.
IMG_6830.jpg

Well, Teesside was an absolute blast. It was ran perfectly, great seat time and a fantastic track. Well worth the 6/7 hour trips. Will do an update properly soon but til then here's the footage.

What a read! Such a nice car man. Thanks for documenting the move from an MX5 to an S13 so well as this is what I'd like to do this year and will definitely be looking back at this if I need any help.

Your car is awesome, and your driving style is sick. Thanks for Insurgent as well, always have a blast through the Facebook page before a drift day to get some inspiration.

Okay so, Teesside. Having done the prep of keeping all fluids from trying to Brexit, I removed 5mm of spacers from the front. If the car was weighted and steering it would catch, I really didn't want to go destroying front tyres 350 miles from home.

IMG_6919.jpg

Loss of fitment was inevitable but fuck it noone will tell when I'm on drift.

So I ended up loading as strategically as possible since the car is lower than it was at the first SR test day. (The 16" emergency get home wheel was moved forward and tyre moved into its position.)
IMG_6928.jpg

How I didn't absolutely burst my arches from all the massive bumps I have no idea.
IMG_6932.jpg

Made it to my Girlfriends in Aberdeen for the weekend as we had a wedding.
IMG_6937.jpg

Done the trek down on the Sunday after the wedding, surprisingly not rough and stayed in a Travel lodge and then head out early doors on Monday.
FullSizeRender%207.jpg

Crew was fucking decent, loads of people I hadn't seen since STL last year so was good catching up.

So on track, went out with the mindset of "Flick initiation at the start of the apex on the right" after watching peoples on board. Having not driven since December nor being particularly good at flick entries (only done it in the wet.) It was inevitable I was all over the place. There was a couple times where I would just get shot forward in a straight line and would jab the handbrake to get back on drift (Bad habit I have, understeer-handbrake). 2-3 runs of this I clock on its because I'm not giving it 100% commitment and being slightly hesitant. Flicks sorted, next problem, bogging down halfway round the big corner in 3rd and giving it hefty kicks to keep it going. Problem, 30psi in NS tyre, 40 in OS. Haha.

After I sorted out tyre pressures Car was absolutely faultless, well apart from my fucking V band coming loose for the 100th time but thats hardly a problem.

(don't miss the 5mm spacer here...)

So yeah, I had the door bar in but wasn't feeling 100% confident about driving with someone. Dan threw out two fingers in front in the queue and I just thought fuck it. I'm so glad I did, my "I'm not confident to drive with anyone today" was straight out the window and we were going for session after session just arsing about trying to get closer and closer. Most fun I've had in a long time.

So yeah amazing day driving, pack up and then have to deal with the 6 hour journey home. Roads up north were cracking, Satnav even took me up some dead country road instead of the A1 which since it wasn't busy i could sit steadily at 60. Edinburgh had some shitty roadworks that knocked me back 30 minutes. 30 minutes I had made up on that back road so it was all good.

Perth.

IMG_7035.jpg

Fuckin heater hose again. Same position at the back of the block for the heater matrix. I was able to cut the hose that had the hole and then squeeze it all back together. Top up with some water and limp home. Left Teesside at 6. Home at 2am. Trek.

Okay, err. Gonna do an update...

More Teesside shit.

Ali also did a video of my car from teesside with clips I didn't get on my personal gopro. Really stoked to have Ali make a video of me as well as being really happy with the outcome.

So coming up my drive after teesside being tired as fuck I didn't take my usual "line" (my driveway is a fucking mess) and smashed the exhaust off a massive rock, broke my exhaust. Just took it off and rewelded it all back together.
IMG_7056_1.png

Also having reading up about SR Straightcams breathing oil badly and people going through loads of oil it was amazing to see how little the catch can caught on a full drift day.
IMG_7109.jpg

Went to remove my front tints and noticed that they came in two parts, colour and then the chrome part. Pulled off the chrome part and it just left my windows blue, with full visibility. Result.
IMG_7047_1.jpg

IMG_7045_1.jpg

All sorted and ready for 2017!
IMG_7104.jpg

Then I done myself a fucking mischief.
IMG_7139.jpg

Fuckin fucked it. Decided to not go back to London on Thursday. Changed my flights then heard that Crail had the full track on and a couple mates were going. Every last minute drift day I've been to has been fucking amazing so I was on it. My driving on the other hand was not on it.
Was driving using as little handbrake as I could. Done one entry on the footbrake swinging me round and it felt amazing. Then i was coming in a bit too fast to a corner and used footbrake to try and scrub speed but the front bias spun me into some concrete filled tyres.

Needs new front wing, Passenger door and glass, rear 1/4 window, rear 1/4. Not posting pictures of the damage until its fixed. I'm very glad to have had a cage and that tint was on the front window.
