Looking for new daily skidder......What are E46 like to slide!?

I'm hoping to be able to get something half decent again soon after a few years of being skint and driving a crappy ff hatch.... just wondering what my options are these days for around 1 -2k!?

I've had s12/s13's and do like my japs but my last s13 blew 3 engines in a year and I don't have the tools and spare parts I used to + their even older lol..... so probably leaning towards BMW's at the moment.

A mate of mine had a nice chaser with a 1jz which he picked up fairly cheap but i can't seem to find any cheaper ones these days!?

Following on from the recent E36 thread just wondering if E46 are similar in driftability or not so good probably being heavier ect!? Because there seem to be loads of E46's about for reasonable money and they can look quite pimp.... Are there any to avoid or look out for, will a 325i do???

I've done the fully stripped out track spec daily driver and not thinking of going that route this time, just welded diff and possible coilovers, ect..... Just something for a bit of fun and maybe the odd track/drift day at some point!?

Any suggestions appreciated:thumbs:

ok so sounds like e46 aren't really up to much except maybe the 330.....? or m3 which is out of my price range! And they would all need welding around the subframe to stop them ripping it out!!??

Hmm so if I go bmw looks like its e36..... much difference between the 325 and 328!? I'm guessing neither of them will be particually fast.... would they hold the back out in 3rd? Or would it be worth me saving up a bit more for the m3??

I guess I might be better off just getting a s13/14 if I can find a half decent one.....

My 330i 'loon is alright.

It's my standard daily hack though.

I reckon with suspension mods etc it would be pretty good but open diff and a 255 section rear really don't help it very much.
I've also noticed the steering can sometimes catch when near full lock (fairly common on e46 apparently which is a little scary on lock.

if your talking about the steering locking and you have to give it a big yank to get it past that point it sounds to me like your drivers side engine mount has given up the ghost like my e36 one did and the steering Colum got stuck on it every so often. you can fix this in 2 ways you eather buy a new engine mount or you space the mount out with a fuck off washer bbetween it and the engine.

I had the same engine mount problem d6 on my e36 but the rack locking up on 46s is not uncommon especially with lock spacers.

I've got an e46 323/5 coilovers welder etc and goes out pretty well only ball ache is the traction control not letting go so I just unplug the abs module and also a bonus is the fact I got the car 250 beans maximum bang minimum buck haha

i would recommend a 36 mines not gone wrong and my friends 46 went into limp mode and its a bugger haha imo 36 look better

Get an MX5 :) I know its completely off topic from your BMW questions, but you'll probably find it more fun to drive, they're cheap, reliable and the weather is getting better so can skid with the roof off. As Stav always points out too, they're good straight out of the box with a welded diff for 2nd/3rd gear in the dry.

If you have mates with cars then go to a drift day with them, if a randomer came up to me and asked what they were like, I would just say get in! 36 seem more chuckable and cheaper whereas a 46 feels very heavy in places and might be a wallet denter! A 200sx would be ideal purely because of the amount of things you can do without buying a single part! It's all about what you prefer :)

I would like a mx5 but unfortunately there just too small and not enough seats lol...
Think I'm going with an e36 325 :)

If ur intrested one off my mates has a clean 330 coupe manual that hes thinking about selling cheap i reckon will be under 2 grand, i got a few 328 e36s and they are really good all round drift cars but now i need more poke so im after a 3.0 m3 e36

I've got a e46 320i going?
Black 2001
130,000
2.2. Petrol.
Already got bilstein/eibach, b12 kit on it.

Only problem is central locking relays have gone, been looked in to it and can get it fixed for £50

If your interested can post photos,
name a price needs to go ASAP.

I would imagine that two years laters he is far past his decision.
