Looking to import / advice needed!

Hi all,

As title suggests, just after a bit of advice as I’m looking to import a car from japan through this sites sponsors (Japanese used cars.com), and was wondering with the current COVID19 / economic issues going on - would this be the ideal time to do this?

I mean would I be in an ‘advantageous’ position or at a disadvantage with all that is going on atm? Haven’t checked if the YEN is strong or weak against the GBP but I just thought I’d ask here as I know a few of you guys have been through the process before etc...

thanks

Smaller exporters / importers that aren't able to go directly to shipping companies (i.e. use shipbrokers) are having trouble at the moment due to backlogs from Christmas and then COVID-19. I've been waiting since February for a car that should go on a boat at the end of the this month as the exporter has managed to go directly to a shipping company.

Cars are cheap in Japan now because of COVID-19 so if you are willing to wait a few months before you see it, it's not a bad time to buy. Some exporters are even offering to store your car for free in the meantime but mine is sat at the docks.

Just make sure you use a proper, registered exporter and not one of those "importers" on Facebook so you can have peace of mind while you wait ;)
