Hi, I'm a 19 year old pizza delivery boy/ cab driver from Ontario, Canada that wants to start drifting. I chose these two jobs because I really enjoy driving! I've been doing my research and from what I know s13s or s14s or ae86's are the best cars to start drifting in, but they are not available at all here (at least not on kijiji) Because my daily/work car isn't going to pass emmissions test next year, my new car has to be very fuel efficient. The only good drift cars I can find in Ontario/Quebec that are under 5k are RX-8's and old BMW's. The RX-8s are too bad on gas for me and the old BMWs from what I hear cost too much for spare parts and maintenance. I plan on importing an s15 just for drifting/track when I'm better with fixing cars so that I can do it myself, so reliability and stock driftability are much more important than upgrade-ability for the car I'm getting now. My max price is about 4k and I'm sure there's decent cars around here that can drift alright other than just the mazdas and bmws, I just don't know what to look for. Like can some corollas or civics drift decent? If not I think I'll suck it up and get a bmw.
My first car's a $500 97 corolla but we also have a 98 cr-v so from them breaking down all the time (cab driving kills cars haha) I know about stuff like spindles, hubs, bearings, tires, brake pads, starters, axles, sensors, head gaskets, distributors, control arms, stabilizer links, ball joints, radiators and thats pretty much all that's gone wrong haha. But whenever something goes wrong I like to ask how it works or might've went bad and then I go home and look at some diagrams too. So with that said, if I go to one of my family friends that owns a garage to take me in and teach me some things, how long do you think it'll be before I can get to the level where I can start upgrading my car by myself and fixing it too.
