M60B40 Capri

Hi all, i converted my '81 Capri to an BMW V8 in 2009 and have been running it on and off as as a road car

i know nothing about drifting, but i'd like to start next year and i know it'll need some more mods to take the abuse on the track. I'm guessing i'll need -

* welded diff (can't afford a decent LSD right now)
* panhard rod and anti-tramp to stop the rear axle floating around
* bucket seats and harnesses
* Bigger steering lock?

anything else you reckon on? thanks! :)

few pics - first attempt was 530i lump

nice one dude :) there was another one being built IIRC on here but the engine didn't go in so not sure what the issue was?? bet that's a giggle in the wet! The rear axle should be fine with just a panhard rod or watts link, but I ran the live axle on my truck on just the leaf springs and all seemed to be OK, but then it didn't have the power of the BM lump! LOL

The sump and the oil pump are PITA on this conversion but with that out the way the rest ain't too bad. Looking forward to getting to a track sometime next year when i've got the rear end sorted :)
homemade sump puts pump & pan out in front of crossmember

Nice project, and good luck! They're a total pig to drift, but give it a go!

Self centering is horrible when lowered, so more castor is good to get, they're also massively lacking in camber up front too.
You don't need more lock to learn, in fact less is better so you aren't just flattered into thinking you can ;)
Get the rear end braced whatever way you can.
Welders are good. Nice and consistent, Ford LSDs are awful.
