Manual s13 in Swindon

Free bump and quick mention. I don't think I know this particular car but the seller knows his s13's inside out and is a friendly helpful chap.

Set up the timing on my s13 as a favour and imparted some sage words of advice to help me along with s13 ownership (which btw moonhead only lasted a few days beyond coming to that meet)

Good luck with your sale

Thanks! I may need some advise from you, been offered a swap for a K reg 530 auto (potential family waggon)- worth a thought? what should i look out for?

I guess on a k reg it is the m30 straight six engine (as opposed to the later v8 3.0's which iirc got fitted to some late e34's?) which are generally quite reliable as are the auto boxes on them.
I haven't owned a e34 but have owned 2 m30 engined BMW's the one I have now\/\/ and a 735 auto and both were 150k ish mileage with no issues at all.

BMW's tend to suffer with bushes wearing especially at the rear, sub frame bushes, rear trailing arm bushes etc.
I know m20's (the smaller straight 6 2.0-2.5) suffer with top end issues and a lot of those have been rebuilt so probably worth a good listen.

forum.bmw5.co.uk will be your friend for 5 series advice chap.

As for the car itself a 530 is iirc 188bhp and a fair old weight with an auto box it is not going to be a supercar but it will make for a good high speed cruiser. e34's handle well for their size as well.

Bonbon on here is quite knowledgable re BMW's and has had one or two e34's iirc.

I think i may pass on the beemer then having read some of the info on the forum. Looking at others now selling I'll take £800 as it is- too cheap really considering the rustlessness

If you look at the first picture i've put up you can make out how the end of the wing and beginning of the bumper are a bit concave- i haven't investigated pulling it out but it is over probably a foot so can't see why it wouldn't. Other than that it has the odd small parking ding- but its 17 years old. As for the engine, his first comment after 10 minutes of hard revving was- engine sounds good, after the test drive (which ID the subframe bushes are gone- honestly didn't realise as i haven't been insured to take it for such a hard drive- i have some locking collors i'll include that were planned for mine and the speedo stopped working:rolleyes:) and a further 10 minutes of revving its nuts off it began making a deeper gruff kind of noise lower down in the rev range. I don't believe its big ends, i think the exhaust/turbo joint is blowing a bit, don't know if that could explain it, i wasn't doing it before and I'm going to further investigate today, but its as good as sold now anyway. Thanks

and a further 10 minutes of revving its nuts off it began making a deeper gruff kind of noise lower down in the rev range :wack:

Ater the test drive it was rattling like a bag of nut  That was not a blow making that sound
