Ladies and gents
The Maxxis British Drift Championship would like to congratulate the 2010 champions!
Ian Phillips dominated the Semi Pro class through out the season and finished the season with another win at Knockhill Circuit.
The Professional Class how ever was another story all together!
Round 5 'Judgement Day' was to live up to all expectations!
As we headed in to qualification it was clear the six championship contenders were pushing it to the limit!
Mark Luney the championship leader had an engine failure on his second qualifying run which meant we were then down to five.
Danny Eyles had to qualify first, win the event and hope for the right results from the other contenders, a long shot but mathematically possible.
Simon Perry took the top qualifying spot meaning we were then down to four.
Declan Munnelly, Shane Lynch, Simon Perry and Phil Morrison.
Shane had to make the final to stand a chance of taking the championship, he made it through to the top eight battles but an on form Phil took the win.
By this time Declan also needed a win with the other drivers failing to get this far in the competition so we were then down to two - Simon and Phil.
The semi finals were as follows
Declan V Phil
Simon V Danny
By this time the drivers were all giving it 110% and the battles were being lost by the smallest of mistakes.
Phil was made to work hard but beat Declan giving him the upper hand over championship contender Simon.
Danny was driving like a man possessed and showed no mercy to Simon and moved on to the final.
This meant that Simon HAD to win the third/fourth place battle and hope Danny won the final to take the championship.
By now the drivers were complete wrecks, dry mouths, sweaty palms and racing pulses!
The look on Simons face spoke a thousand words!
After the first battle Simon was 6 - 4 down ! The second run saw a huge mistake from Declan and the MK 2 Escort spinning giving Simon third place in the event.
It was all down to THE final battle of the final round to decide the championship! Phil needed to win, if not Simon would take it by a single point!
Driftworks Phil Morrison verses Japspeeds Danny Eyles.
The driver headed off from the line and after the first two runs and some deliberation from the judges, they could not choose a winner, it was that close!
'One more time' was called and the drivers line up once again.
This time it was a mistake from Danny on the second run that would seal the championship for Phil. Danny span giving a 10 - 0 win and therefore we had a champion!
The winner of the Maxxis British Drift Championship 2010 is Phil Morrison.
Congratulations Phil and to the Driftworks team for winning the championship after a testing season.
Congratulations must also go to Skyline Owners Club Drift Team who are Team/Constructors Champions 2010.
All that remains for the 2010 season is the awards/dinner dance ceremony where we will celebrate another fantastic season for the UK drift scene and a look forward to the 2011 season.
The BDC would like to thank each and every person who has made the 2010 season possible, our sponsors, staff, drivers, crews, venues and spectators.
We look forward to seeing you at the dinner dance. Licensing/driver search details for the 2011 season will be announced soon.
Many thanks
